Everyone knew this was coming. They made the decision to go for it with Brees these last few years and hard to argue with that decision. Won the last four division crowns winning at least 12 games a year. IMHO the only bad decisions they made were Jordan and Peat. The other guys were all young. Jordan had already begun to slide in performance and Peat is always injured. The Taysom Hill contract also looks bad to me as he hasn’t had any performance to earn that much or shown the ability to stay healthy. The only reason I can think for signing Hill is if they realize they have another couple of years of cap hell and they realize they can’t bring in a new QB so they will go to the new age Lamar Jackson/Jalen Hurts type RPO offense with Taysom. But he can’t stay on the field!
And Payton can’t coach that type offense. They will have to bring in a new offensive asst to help him. Payton’s offensive genius in the drop back passing game is his only great quality. Not nearly as good a game manager as he is play caller and designer.
Gonna be a 2-3 year down period. Must use their draft picks wisely and start to trade down for additional ones until they can clear cap space to get a quality QB.
Let me add the seasons will be crap but offseason esp draft time will be more interesting as we draft higher.

I think the main thing that has derailed us this season is injuries, with a bit more luck on that front l have no doubt we would be making the playoffs
Coach SP deserves a lot of credit for this, except for a couple of games we have been competitive
Whilst he remains our coach l believe we are in with a shout

The season is a huge disappointment for sure. But that’s a huge stretch to say the organization is in trouble all of a sudden just because of a 4 game losing streak after a 5-2 start.

The losses before Buffalo were within reach, but bottom of the depth chart backups are competing in all of these games. I don’t see the organization is in trouble because missing injured talented starters, who are some of the best at their positions, is causing losses.

But Winston was able to get wins.
We would have a nice record if we wasn’t starting our 3rd string & his number 1 wr is really a 3 on another team
Even with the long list of injuries I feel like Winston would have us still winning games, pretty or not!

I agree we have some dead money we are carrying from trying to win with brees, but we are not in trouble. We are contenders when healthy and the salary cap increases next year.

I know its disappointing but some seasons you just can't overcome the injury issues.

I think this is an overreaction.

They did what they have to do in order to pursue a second Super Bowl, and we were a penalty away from it. Drew gave us a chance to get there.

Regarding Peat and Cam (and Hill now), you can discuss the validity of giving them the extensions, but these 3 contracts alone are the reason for having cap problems.

We had the same problem before, and we went to get Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne. We already had cap issues and trades were necessary to clean it.

We are on a similar situation now, but our brilliant draft class of Lattimore, Kamara, and Ram, is getting in their prime now. I am not sure we will be able to keep Marcus Williams but it is a great start of a new era.

Sean Payton is a great coach doing more with less.

We may not believe they are that good but Andrus Peat, Ram, Armstead, Kamara, Michael Thomas, all of them are pro-bowl or all pro players and have missed significant time.

We don't need to tank, that will naturally happen, but I am sure we will be competitive as soon as we can.

Saints are projected to have around $25 million in cap space in 2023 with 51 players currently under contract.

Saints will have about $119 million in cap space in 2024 offseason with 19 players under contract for that year as of right now, before counting 2022-2023 draft picks and 2022-2023 re-signings.

2022 will be the last offseason where we have to restructure so many huge contracts to make cap space. A lot of the dead caps and big contracts come off of the books during the following offseasons.

100% disagree.

The organization is not in trouble. This has just been a bad year.

1. HOF QB retired.
2. #1 WR recovering from injury/surgery.
3. QB1 going through QB rehab injured.
4. QB2 suffered concussion, foot injury.
5. QB3 starter.
6. One of the best LT's in the game, injured.
7. Probowl LG, injured.
8. One of the best RT's in the game, injured.
9. RB1 and one of the best playmakers in the game, injured.
10. RB2 injured.
11. Dav, injured.
12. 1st round pick, injured.
13. Enforcer Nickel CB/S, injured.
14. WR2 injured most of the season.
15. TE1, injured.
16. 1st round C playing out of position and looks pretty bad at times.

The list goes on. Most of these overlap which compounds the impact.

On GMFB today, they referenced the Saints as pretend Saints and the JV squad since most players aren't even recognizable to the casual fan. I don't think it was a dig on the Saints, just an acknowledgement that the team has suffered a huge amount of injuries to key positions.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any of the current injuries are expected to go into next season. JW isn't under contract, but if he was the injury was early enough int he season, he should be ready by training camp.

If anything, this year has highlighted the areas that need to be addressed during the offseason.

If Greg Roman can revise his offense to get the most out of Lamar Jackson, Sean Payton can do whatever he needs to get the most out of his QB.

We're playing our JV offense almost entirely. With AK and Ingram out, we're fielding what, three NFL starters total? Maybe four, if you count the new TE.

We aren't going to win many games playing our 2nd-4th string against everyone else's 1st. It's just not happening. So relax and maybe we can see a starter for next season emerge somewhere.
