I’m just glad so glad they didn’t trade up to get him. Anyway I guess they figured he wouldn’t be available when they picked again. Hopefully he turns out to be the defensive version of Alvin.

Weird pick after picking up Davenport’s fifth year option. Depth at DE didn’t seem to be an issue. He should be a decent Hendrickson replacement but using a first with a paper thin LB corp and no CB opposite Lattimore? Like I said - weird.....
Totally agree and that's hoping we have Lattimore for most of the season

Could they have not traded back and still got this guy....
Lots of people are saying this so I am replying to you and all of them.

You have no idea the inner workings of teams, assuming you can just trade back isn't like assuming you can just head down the road to a 7/11... it's not about wanting to do it, it is about finding a deal that you can do it at. This front office as been pretty damn on point in the draft the last handful of years, why does that not generate some trust? I remember people clowning the Alvin Kamara pick using the exact same 'logic'. Sometimes you just get the guy you want and sometimes you can manipulate up and down the board to get him, sometimes you don't have the right deal available to make. Trust the guys who have built a damn good team in the draft when they make the picks, and judge them AFTER you have seen results. Anything said beforehand is just petty, and proof you care more about names you heard of than the entire organization who it is their job to get this right.

I saw during the process a very positive piece about him at the NFLNetwork, I think in Path to the Draft.

They were talking of him as a possible late first rounder or early second.

We are going to start reading positive spin about the pick very soon. It would not have been my pick at all, but I am not angry about it.

I mean, I am used to it now....

They never even broke down the pick or showed film. LOL
The NFL Network called him a ”fast riser” after a big Senior Bowl then started talking about the Pack and Rodgers. That was all he was covered. Just a few seconds of footage and a couple of comments. Least covered first round pick of the night. Even a steady stream of hate toward the pick would’ve been better than their yawning indifference.

I was listening on the radio. They had 4 people commenting on every pick. After the Saints pick the commentators sounded like they were at a funeral.

The summary:
Why tho?

Basically, the Saints have spent a third first round pick chasing what they wish Davenport to be, but isn’t.

I’d like to give Ireland the benefit of a doubt but there hasn’t been a great track record of the Saints proving me wrong. Didn’t like Rankins, Davenport, or Ruiz. Frankly, I’m not even educated enough on our 1st round pick to have an opinion. That’s not good. There was nobody looking to trade up just a little?
