Penalties 8-92 1-10 (2 Viewers)

The officiating was bad but as bergeaux pointed out, it's bad all around. I don't think there's an overall bias. Officiating is just uniformly terrible. The blow to the head call was a correct call. In this case it's the rule that needs fixing before the sport is turned into flag football.

Mostly agreed here. The Falcons clearly were sending more than we could block and that was obviously their game plan. I'm surprised that we didn't respond with more screens and draws and max protect packages. We continued to let them blitz more than we could block, often resulting in free runners bearing down on Brees. However, on several occasions both our tackles simply got outplayed.

Even going back to the Ravens game, I think you can show how terrible officiating has been league wide. Against the Ravens, we were called for a late hit out of bounds on one of Rice's long runs. Clearly, he was still in bounds when his legs were being taken out from under him. Now back to last night's game. Jenkins makes the same type tackle on Jenkins after a catch and run and I jumped up shouting NO...I thought for sure he was going to get a late hit call like we did against the Ravens. Luckily, no call.

I was glad for the no-call but P***ed at the inconsistency they call NFL officiiating.

Dude!!! Did you even know that the Falcons averaged a little over 4 penalties a game this year??????????

I'm not saying the officials are always right. That roughing the QB call was all wrong, but hey, the Falcons scored an easy touchdown the next play anyway.

Give the Falcons credit, they produce many penalties all year long!!

how the **** do you produce penalties???? please explain this to me. because as of now it makes no damn sense at all.

The rule is fine, don't hit the QB in the head. He wasn't hit in the head. So the problem is with the ref, not the rule.
Smith slapped his facemask while reaching for his shoulder. It was a very quick slap that had zero force behind it and less effect on the play, but at first I didn't believe Smith actually connected with Ryan's head and I watched it in slo-mo several times - it did. Letter of the law, since the facemask is part of the helmet which is covering the head, the officials were right. But it was one of the most ticky-tack correct calls I've seen.

No biased, just a knee jerk reaction. Dunbar did not hit Ryan late.
The issue here wasn't so much that Dunbar was already diving to hit Ryan, it's that he didn't do anything to attempt to lessen the blow, didn't make an effort to avoid the hit. He lowered his shoulder and went for it. This will get called every time in this league. At least if the team doing it isn't wearing Falcon red or Patriot red/white/blue.

I especially couldn't believe they called us for roughing the passer when one of our players grabbed Ryan's jersey (on his left shoulder)...***???....that was just amazingly awful!!! I knew at that point, that we were gonna have to beat the team AND the refs.....and we did!

this was the worse call of the night, then the PI call ws second

Instead of blaming the refs for the penalties, why don't we blame the people really responsible. Like Bushrod, whose false start cost us a TD. Like Porter's back-to-back PI penalties that put them on the one yard line. Like Dunbar's late hit on Ryan. There's no doubt that there were some penalties on the Falcons that weren't called. They were holding Will Smith all night for example and the only way their receivers get open is by pushing off. But until we clean up our own act, I don't think we have a lot of room to complain.

I went to Chick-fil-A this morning to read the AJC bemoaning the Falcons' loss. I almost died laughing at the picture they used with an article about Smith not going for it on 4th down with 3 minutes left. Can you say blatant?! :hihi:

Actually defensive backs are taught that if they are beat/lose the ball on a WR in the endzone to do a PI so the defense has a chance to force a turnover or hold them to 3 instead of the other team getting a TD... Also, Atlanta got a magical no-call when their safety face guarded Lance Moore in the endzone compared to when Porter did it, he got called.

Yeah, I was pretty upset that we weren't getting any holding calls.. Pretty obvious in that pic though..

As I said, all he had to do was look back for the ball and it was a simple incomplete pass and a great defensive play.

LOL @ the "1 and done" talk.

You guys are NOT as good as you THINK you are...Seriously...but it's OK.

Enjoy the win. We WILL beat the Panthers next week, win the division AND the 1st round bye and MAYBE see you guys in the 2ND round, IF you survive...

not as good as we think we are?? look at the stat sheet, bro. if brees doesn't throw that pick 6 the game isn't close. go back to your sorry falcons' board, loser. btw, you may wanna change your handle too. "turner the burner"? he sure looked like it last night.

"Turner the burner"?

As in crappy cell phone you use for crime and then throw away?

On MNF, Turner looked like he's got no burst left. Can't get to the corner at all, so defenses can cheat to the middle.

YPC
2005 5.9
2006 6.3
2007 4.5
2008 4.5
2009 4.9
2010 4.1

The trend is clear.

His days as as an NFL back are drawing to a close.

Ok, I'll throw ya a bone. Shoddy White actually caught 1 pass without pushing off this year, shocking. By the way, how much does it cost to buy a ref anyway?
