Pete Carmichael fate? (1 Viewer)

Hasn't the narrative of Pete not wanting the job been debunked? I believe he wanted the job but understood that the team was going to interview people outside the organization and not just promote him.

Yes, I remember reading something on here that quelled that rumor. And no, I don't have a link.

A new OC is most probable. I say this because new coaches would typically get 3 years to turn a franchise around. Of course, that doesn't necessarily seem to be the norm today.

As far as where the new OC will come from, I have no idea. I know it won't be a lateral move by Johnson, Smith or Waldron because those guys will be head coaches next season.

I think Pete is gone and ends up in Denver. Hopefully DA as well but I'm not as sure about that one. New OC is DA's last move.

I cant see any imaginable situation where Pete keeps his job. I know what you are all going to say "Gayle is detached, Mickey runs the old boys club". But damn, it will be riots in the streets if they keep him. And that's IF DA keeps HIS job. So you can forget about Ben Johnson coming here as a OC or Miami's OC or whoever in a lateral move. But is it Curry who gets the job?

I'd like him on the staff in some capacity and I'd like the system to be kept in place, but built on.

It just seems counter-intuitive to hire a new guy/new system and have Carr on his like 6th offensive system in last 8 years, along with the entire offense learning a new scheme. If you thought they were disjointed this year, wait until nobody can help anyone.

I understand the sentiment behind this. But this system has been in place for over 15 years and the guy responsible for adding the new "wrinkles" to build on it, as Payton liked to call them, is gone. So what we're left with is predictable. If we switch coaching staffs, start getting the cap right and reevaluate the entire roster and how they are used, I think fans will be more patient with the next staff than with this one if those are the circumstances.

As for Carr, I don't think Carr can be guaranteed to be part of the long term plan. I think you draft a rookie in the 1st or 2nd and sign another vet to compete in camp and let them duke it out with Carr and Haener. Let the coach designing the offense pick those players to suit what they have in mind. The QB best able to gel with the new offense and the other players wins. Regardless of experience or salary. And I think this method should be used across the roster, not just QB.

Car is the long term QB as long as DA is the HC.

I think the answer here is Frank Smith. He knows the system and has been exposed to many systems since leaving the Saints. He currently is the nonplaycalling OC of one of the best offenses in the league working for one of the best offensive minds in the league so he can add to and freshen up up the offense. He's the kindof guy that could take a promotion to playcalling OC and PC could stay on in some reduced capacity to help Smith with the day to day OC responsibilities allowing Smith to be playcaller.

very cool, just looked him up. Like the foundational knowledge, also like the mashup of experience and system exposure. Seems like a guy in line for a bigger role...an ascending talent so to speak.

If DA was to win every regular season game next season, He still wouldn't have a winning HC record. They need to clean house in New Orleans

I like the idea of Frank Smith too, but he is likely to get head coach interviews soon and I don't think we could hire him away from the Dolphins without a promotion.

I really think we need an outside hire for OC. We have all seen how keeping hires in house has worked out. The only way we get a good OC in the building is by offering the HC spot with full control of the offense and giving DA the boot. No good OC will make a lateral move to this dumpster fire.

Which is why Loomis will have to absolutely nail the next OC hire. Somebody who sees the following three things:

- what Carr does well
- what Carr can improve on
- what Carr should not be asked to do anymore

could max out his capabilities with the Saints.
