Philip Rivers (1 Viewer)

This is just false

Whether you like.the guy or not, it undeniable that he was still a very good qb last year with that colts team.

And if your comparing Phillip and Taysom, it's no contest. Sadly Phillip is 3x the qb that Taysom is.

He can read defenses and run an offense without any restraints.

Taysom cannot.

They aren't even in the Same league, he would be a huge upgrade
I’m not saying Rivers isn’t/wasn’t as good as Taysom currently is, clearly that’s not the case. My point was he’s 39, not played for 9 months and would have to learn the playbook mid season. I’m not sure he was very good last year either. He isn’t going to be that much more effective than Taysom for those reasons. If you’re bringing anyone out of retirement it would have to be Drew purely because he knows the playbook, but I think there’s no chance of that happening.

Chad Kelly's a free agent

I understand your point, you're just a little off on the details, and the relevancy of your point.

I think we all know it will take a little time for him to learn the playbook.

But...

Not as long as you think. Look Rivers has been in the NFL for a loooooong time. Yes he's gonna have to learn it, but the biggest thing aren't the plays, that will come quick. It's the terminology, and for someone with as many years as him, it would probably only take him 2-3 weeks tops, before he could start an NFL game. He wouldn't have to know everything, just most of it.

We're not talking about some 3 year journeyman free agent qb. He's been around the block.

Who cares if he has to sit back a couple weeks to get it down.

This signing wouldn't necessarily be for the regular season. With this defense we can get by, and win some close games for a couple weeks

This signing would be about getting over the hump in December. With this elite defense, Rivers could definitely do that. Rivers could take this team from playoff contenders, to Serious Super bowl Contenders. We're not going to be that with Taysom and/or Trevor

The saying holds true, Defense travels, and Defense wins championships, but that's just not all you need anymore.

In this Era, an elite defense is 70% of that puzzle, but you gotta also be able to move the ball effectively in the air, and on the ground. Bc in this Era of protect the offense at all cost, an efficient offense can get overwhelming if your not able to answer as well.

Bottom line is, although an elite defense can get you far, that alone can't get you all the way anymore. You have to be able to push the ball when the game calls for it. If you can't, you won't win.

Rivers is the perfect qb for Sean's scheme these days. At 39, Rivers won't be asked to be the hero. He'll only be asked to take what the defense gives him, and too TAKE CARE of the FOOTBALL. Basically just a glorified "game manager"

It'd be a perfect match imo, but hey I'm not Sean, and I'm also not his ego either. Which we all know can get him in trouble at times.

Anyway just my opinion.
