Pick you Defensive Coordinator....... (1 Viewer)

The possible NEW DC choices (all run the 4 - 3 scheme)

1. Sean McDermott - Jim Johnson disciple and a secondary coach

2. David McGinnis - Aggressive Linebacker coach Tennessee

3. Marvin Lewis - Put together and coached the best defense in NFL history in Baltimore.

4. Greg Williams - Solid, aggressive and should be available after the Jags restructure

I would be satisfied with any of the above.

Nice list.

Bringing everyone back to reality. Payton won't get rid of Gibbs aka the new Venturi. Honestly, it won't matter until we get an offensive coord that specializes in running the football to challenge Payton's thinking. Look around the league, running the ball and playing defense seems to go hand and hand (Carolina, NYG, Baltimore, Tenn, Pit). We have to address both or it won't work (Phil).

I'd prefer Vilma making all of the calls on the field over Gibbs coming back next year.
All the talk of Lebeau can go out the window. And I'm sticking to Coach C. There's talk he'd look at the Browns...but he'd know better than to take a crap team in a crap city. I'd think anyways. Crennell or maybe Herm Edwards. Can't see how either of those guys will be back.

I give my vote to Dave McGinnis also. He is a no nonsense type of coach and knows defense.

With that said, The major problem we have besides Gary Gibbs having a kick back attitude and not being aggressive in his defensive playcalling, is the Will Smith and Charles Grant factor.

Unless these two guys get their head out of their rear-end and lose weight and start playing at a high level like their contract warrants, This defense is not going to be corrected. I do not care who the Defensive Cord. is, These guys are the key to the defensive success.

Gary Gibbs always wants to rely on a four man rush to get to the QB. Any team who relies on this mind set most the time is asking for failure. If another teams Offensive lineman only have to worry about a four man rush, They going to have an easy day.

Coaching wise it wouldn't be a bad Idea, but too much bad history there for that to even make it to the options table.

I actually like Haslett as a DC and he will not stick in STL. They need complete overhaul.

His record as DC isn't exactly shiny, though, is it?

Rivera had huge success as Chicago's defenisve co-ordinator. He would be my number 1 choice. He only got the Chargers D co-ordinator job temporarily. If the Chargers fail to make the playoffs or are one and done it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't get the job long term. Also if Singletary doesn't get the 49ers head coaching job I'd like him in. Otherwise McDermott sounds intriguing, especially given the success Spagnuolo and Harbaugh have had

Coach Cowher. He doesn't want to live too far away from Carolina (his daughters go to school there and they have a house) and I don't think he wants the responsibility and the pressure of a HC job.

2- chances of getting Cowher. Slim and None. slim left on the last bus out.

The great part is we obviously have a great deal of talent in which to choose and I would hope that we do not wait another year trying to improve with the coaches we currently have on the defensive side of the ball. With our offense, and agressive DC could make all of the difference in the WORLD!!
