Play design was GREAT by Carmichael here. Just have to finish! (1 Viewer)

Sure we can! We're a we can do it kinda team.

Olave is having a really bad year. That play is a perfect example. He said he lost it in the light, it happens. He'll fight through it and hopefully learn a few lessons about being a pro along the way and be better for it in the long run.

just as important that play was called against the proper look D was giving. Timing was right. Hopefully PC is finding that "groove" of when to call what vs what D is attempting to do

I'm not gonna lie, I'm never going to take the bait again for "so and so WR is looking like a star in camp."

I'm not trying to make this into a bash Olave thread but the guy has just been so...passionless.

Exactly what I thought. I was eating crow about him the whole game. Hope I continue to have to do that the rest of the season.

Pete has taken a lot of heat, most of which he deserved. The only game the Saints were truly out of it was the game against the Bucs. Had the players executed the plays called in the other games the Saints may be 7-1 at this point. There's a fine line between winning and losing in the NFL.

While PC has had his share of questionable play calls with down and distance, as well as game on the line calls, he doesn't get much credit here when things go right.

I would argue that we should never have to win in spite of your playcaller. I never seen a championship team overcome bad playcalling in meaningful games.

The whole game was like this... Like where the hell has this Pete been?
For one, the protection was the best it has been all season. It was the first game where Carr was under pressure less than 20% of his dropbacks. We also didn't ask him to put the team on his back at any point, he only threw 27 passes.

The Colts game was a great version of the kind of game I thought Carr was brought here to play. Do everything Dalton can do in the short-intermediate range, but take advantage of the deep opportunities that Dalton missed with his arm and/or eyes. In past games Carr was throwing up prayers, this week every shot he took had a chance.

He also only threw one deep pass on third and six or less versus four last week, he took what the defense was giving him to move the chains.

Despite his production, he has dropped several, been hit in the facemask, and been called out for giving up on routes and loafing.

Sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. Lets take a more indepth look.

Olave.png

He's been targeted 77 times and only has 44 receptions. That means he is only catches 57% of the passes thrown to him, last year that was well over 60%.

He's only on pace to have 2 touchdowns, last year he had 4.

So while saying he's had "a really bad year" might sound like a stretch, it's very fair to say he has regressed this season and is having somewhat of a sophomore slump.

His QB was having a hard time getting in rhythm but he is having a productive season no matter what reasoning people come up with for saying otherwise.
