Pontiac Fiero versus Toyota MR2 (2 Viewers)

My mom traded a Maxima in for a Cimarron and then cried when after 3 days she was told she couldn't undo the deal. the Cimarron was such a piece of work and she hated it so much she ditched it within months and went back to whatever Volvo sold at the time as she'd done since forever.

My sister got a v6 fiero for graduation. My girlfriend at the time had a Nissan Pulsar. The only friend I've ever had who wore a gold necklace and unbuttoned shirt got the first MR2 I'd ever seen. (he was only 5'2").

The fiero was the worst piece of work I'd ever seen. The Pulsar truck back thing was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. The MR2 was sporty and cute, but clearly designed for high school girls. It was not as fast as my Rabbit GTI, but it was way smaller and impossible to have sex in.

The best thing I can recall about the MR2 is that it made me consider Supras when I destroyed the GTi. I ended up with an 86 Supra for awhile and later with an 87 turbo (maybe88) Supra which was very fun. The coolest thing about the Supras were the pop up headlights complete with washer fluid!

If the 86 Supra I had which was essentially an 85 1/2 with the only change being a 3rd brake light had the speed of the turbo, it would have been one of the greatest cars I'd ever had. I loved the look and it handled like a freaking race car, but was very slow comparatively.

I've always loved Caddys, but the Cimarron was a blunder of epic proportions. If I could, I'd buy every last one in existence and burn them to the ground. That car was an insult to the Cadillac brand and whoever the lame brained fool was that thought up this piece of work should rot for eternity.

Not very pastor-like of me. :hihi: The first car I ever owned was a 1974 Caddy Sedan DeVille, and I hope once day I'll have another chance at one.
I guess after the debacle with the Fiat, the Fates smiled on me with regard to the Cimarron :hihi:

I drove the Cimarron for 2 years and sold it when the job I got after college provided me with a company car. 10 year later I saw the car in a grocery store parking lot, approached the driver, told him who I was, and asked him how he was making out. "Best 2200.00 I ever spent on a car he said. :)

Second-gen MR2 will get you killed dead. Too much power and too much weight in the back. By the time you're aware the rear wheels are stepping out on you, you might as well already be in the ditch.

The whole car is constantly whispering sweet lies to you.
“You got this”.
“Open me up and ride free, you got this”
“What are you a *****?”
“Just do it”, “Do it”, “you got this”.

Do not do it. You don’t got it. You ARE in fact a *****. And as we all know, ***** is mad good. But not that good.
You will sit on the curb and settle your heart after it tries to kill you the first time.
You will get back inside and it will immediately get back to the business of trying to get you to let it murder you.
“You got this. This time you know. That last time was just a fluke. You ain’t no *****”.

Repeat after me.
You
Don’t
Got
This.

But for $30k you can look the devil in the eye and take this ride.

You were warned.

I liked the Fiero GT better than the standard

The coolest Fiero by far is the 1987-88 Fiero Mera. I have seen something like this before, I don't know it was a kit or an actual Mera. But the Mera wasn't actually kit car, but not a manufacturer release either - the original Mera was an '86 Fiero with body styling from the Ferrari 308. It was the product of an independent GM dealer and the next year and a half, it sold as basically a dealer-option. A small network of dealers made the car available for the 1987 and 1988 model year. It was only available as a new vehicle from the lot (and hence not a kit).

Not shockingly, they were sued by Ferrari and ended production very quickly. In all, 247 were sold. And looking at it now, I can't believe somebody thought they could get away with such a blatant ripoff. Of course, the cars are now "rare" and collectable.

Here's an old pic of them making the Mera conversions:

I also loved that car.

or Option E, a few years later, first-gen Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo. If I can ever find one just like this, in blue, with the pop-up headlights, I'm buying it and damn the consequences.

Nice. I had the Eagle Talon TSI I bought off my uncle when I was 4 years in the Marines. It looked exactly as pictured. Fast freaking car.

I remember wanting one of those.

Prepare to be jealous - my first car was a 1988 Isuzu Impulse. Yes, it had "Handling by Lotus" with little Lotus badges on it. Looked pretty good but just a little 4 cylinder. I had to turn off the A/C for extra boost.

Mine was blue.

I miss those 90s cars. You could drive the piss out of them, redline it, slam shifting, dump the clutch at 4000 rpm, foot on the floor at all times. And they went just fast enough to get your thrills but not so fast to get you in trouble. One of the most fun cars I ever had was a Dodge Colt, it only went fast at around 7,000 RPM but man, it was ridiculously fun to drive.

Now I have a Volvo wagon that goes 0-60 in like 6 seconds, but it does it all so quietly and you can't even get a good burnout because of the traction control and it never seems like you're going fast even if you're doing 100 mph.

Ferris' sister got a Fiero, he got a computer...

Wait, hold the phone.

I want to change my answer. MR2 may be a better car, but Fiero has Hall and Oates.
