Potential Taysom replacement (2 Viewers)

I would love to have another Taysom but as others mentioned he's one of a kind. Also Payton was the one who "invented" his role. No one else has been able to duplicate what we've been able to do with him.
Taysom will be 35 in August--love the player, love the style of play, love the person----He had a horrible knee injury. I'm pulling for a full recovery but the reality is 50/50 not returning to the player he once was. I hope I'm wrong.
His unique style and position requires extraordinary physicality. His health history doesn't give me much hope of his return.
Don't try to replace him--gonna chase the what ifs. I do like the use of big body WRs that can do similar things--but not QBs. Want a pounder, physical runner--draft Skattebo

Biggest issue with the injury is the timing in regards to the season , if he were 25 he wouldn’t be ready

Sad to say Foster Moreau as well

TH was able to cover the lack of several players , an improved roster will make up for a lot of what he does

Love Taysom and all he has done for the Saints. I don't think he will be back next year and quite honestly, I see him in a Broncos outfit. Ugh!!

With that, I think that the Saints need to move on from the Taysom type plays.

I believe that the league is going back to a running back oriented offense with a mobile QB. The Ravens and the Eagles are the blueprint for that. They both have continued success and are always in the playoff mix.

Why do we need a new Taysom. He is great and all, and we needed his contributions on this team. But it doesn’t last long. And it is not a necessity.
Bc we have seen what a mismatch/chess piece can do. The more of those you can have, the better. It’s what offenses are supposed to look for, guys who can create mismatches and fits for defenses.

I’d have to see it from even a semi credible source. I’d also have to see his contract and if it has anything in it like Carr’s where we can’t cut him if he’s injured basically. I’m sure the guys that pay attention in detail to the contract stuff could answer that

Yeah, Taysom is just a rare, freak athlete. He didn't really have a natural position fit, so Payton created a role to get him on the field as a situational weapon and playmaker. You just don't find guys too many guys built like him with his speed and athleticism. Unicorn indeed.

It’s not enough to just be able to run, catch, and tackle, you have to be a credible threat as QB too. On top of all that, you have to be intelligent, able to assimilate the playbook from all those positions. TH sat in on multiple rooms to be able to do that. The chances of hitting on someone else able to do all that is not easy. We can’t even reliably hit on a player in a single position, much less multiple positions.

That Skatteboo kid could fill a lot of roles but there is only one Taysom.
Agreed completely. He's younger and stronger as well. I would grab him if I could and use him very similarly to Taysom. He can run, catch, and throw the ball.

Yet. He set the blueprint for a player who has massive drive and can do a lot of things well but none of them elite. An all around motivated and good football player. Finding those traits will be rare, but there are more out there that don't even realize it and it'll take a special combination of player and receptive coach to see it again. Before Taysom, I think Tim Tebow, Pat White and Jason Campbell could have been that if anyone had had a vision for it.
You mention Tim Tebow. How quickly we forget. Tebow could have been a Taysom type player before Taysom came along if Tebow would not have been so dang hard headed.

What is amazing is that we poached him from a practice squad. The odds of a find like that again are infinitely small.

I think it was recognized with Tebow, but he didn't seem to want any part of it.
