PSA: Trey Hendrickson has 11.5 sacks for the Bengals this season. Happy Thanksgiving!! (3 Viewers)

Right.
Everyone conveniently forgets reason the FO didn’t have money set aside for Hendrickson was that until his walk year, he hadn’t done much to make the FO think he was going to need a big contract (and I feel like there was a point on SR that people were complaining about his lack of production).

People also conveniently leave out that he had 1 good season before he left in FA. Before that he was an oft-injured under-performing player.

Hindsight is 20/20.

We should have kept Hendrickson.
We should have drafted Mahomes.
We should have drafted Lamar Jackson.
We should have drafted Josh Allen.
We should have drafted, insert name here.

We have so many armchair GMs with 20/20 hindsight vision.

We don't know had he stayed if he would have turned into the player he is now. Nielson wanted to fatten up our DEs and apparently DA left pre-game warm-ups optional, so Hendrickson may have reverted back to the oft-injured player who had 1 good season.
We can only go by the facts as we know them.

The facts are that Hendrickson was an ascending player ready to break out, and our front office and scouting departments didn't have the vision to see that.

It amazes me we gotten our share of great Luck with Drew Brees and Damario, plus a bona fide B.A in Saint Kamara and The Lethal Weapon Taysom Hill, yet we dwell over people who leave and do well elsewhere. It's just the nature of sports
The one position that we can’t get any luck is at DE, haven’t had a great one since Cam was in his prime. That’s why everyone is upset. Drafting 1st round failures hurts for a long time!

That's your hindsight 20/20 facts. The facts are he was an oft-injured player who had his breakout season in his last season, essentially a season too late.

Yep, other way around everyone say horrible contract. I agree it wouldn't have been wise at the time. Dav had two more years left on Rookie contract

It sounds like the money wouldn't have gone to Hendrickson anyway but the decision to franchise tag Marcus Williams was a head scratching use of resources at the time. He was pretty upfront that he wanted to test the market and go someplace else. Sometimes you have to let guys go when they want to leave.

On a related note, the Saints might have dodged a bullet with Williams choosing to leave. Between injuries and now being benched for performance, it has kind of gone off the rails for him in Baltimore.

I do not understand the significance of this thread?

There isn't one. As long as we draft good and can't keep all the players, you'll have threads like these. He's played in 59 games for the Bengals which is 14 more than he ever played in for us. He also has 57 starts as a Bengals compared to 18 starts with us. He's a Bengal who was once a Saint. Nobody cares. It's like dudes that follow their exes on social media wishing they still had that.

I think the frustration for many fans, including myself, is seeing how we have managed our assets to pick DEs, looking for “the one”, while letting the cream of the crop walk only to continue reaching. Yea it’s hindsight when it comes to T-Rex but it’s also Davenport, Turner, Foskey, not working out, considering the capital we used to acquire them.

For me it goes beyond all of the above mentioned. It’s having limitations because of the way we’ve “managed” the cap. It was obvious in Drew’s last season that we needed to invest in the future, but we just kept doubling down.
