Quddus Hit on Hakeem Nicks now posted.... (1 Viewer)

great hit but all i see is a 15 yard penalty and an automatic first down...

That rule is horrible for the game. Most of those hits result in stingers, and not serious injuries. It completely changes the way defenses can play, and as a result, changes the entire game for the worse.

Hit on a defenseless player? Are they suppose to wait till they are running down the field with blockers? They are suppose to let the other team complete the pass. Unbelievable!!

The problem with the new rules is that the are not clear and understandable. Therefore players are either tentative and unable to decide what they should do or have to just play like normal and hope they don't get a flag.

For a while players were tentative and they were STILL getting flagged, so I believe players (and coaches) are starting to just give up on it and play and take the flags. They don't have a clue what will or will not be a flag anymore. The league's own video that "explains" the rules showed a hit nearly identical to a hit recently that was flagged and changed a games outcome.

If they truly wanted to "change behavior" they would be clear and discernible rules. But it's not really about that. It's about protecting the league from law suits. They claim "they did something" as soon as they found out about the long term impact of head injuries.

I am hopeful that once all this is settled, the league and the players will find a way to put it all behind them and go back to playing real football. Then they 2010 through 201X seasons will have an asterisk for some fans because they will be "lost" seasons.

The rule is pretty simple to me. Don't hit up high on a QB any time he is behind the line of scrimmage or any player in the act of trying to catch a ball.

Enjoy football while you can, the lawyers are taking it over. In 3 years, we will hardly recognize our beloved game.

I think you're way off. The NFL sent a "training video" that included Ray Lewis hitting a receiver in the process of catching a ball and it was the example of legal.

So it's not that easy. And MANY defensive players have been flagged for form tackling QBs and hitting them in the stomach, no where near the head.

The rules are NOT simple. Why do you think so many people are saying publicly, "I don't know what's legal and what's not anymore." And it's not just a few people.

There's something about seeing #42 "Laying some Wood" on an opposing receiver that makes me grin just like old times...
