I left out marc bulger because he proved to be a stater. But you can insert ewers anywhere in the list above.
There is no way Rattler should be on this list. Having seen all of these guys play, Rattler is clearly better than all of them.

It looks like someone close to contending is going to get Ewers. 49ers might go after him. He could sit behind Stafford in LA for a year or two. That could be a win for him as opposed to having to "rescue" a franchise.

3 meetings with Ewers now. Maybe Saints will select Ewers in the 3rd-4th round. Then Ewers and Rattler could compete to become the future starter under Kellen Moore.

Makes too much sense for a QB in the 3rd or 4th with the amount of picks they have in those rounds. Get a toolsy prospect in here and let him sit a year and learn while letting him complete in 2026.

I'm all for continuing to bring in 3rd or 4th round QBs in hopes that you find the gem that goes on to start for you. But, I do hope that they find a QB that they think is worth a 1st or 2nd round pick soon because the hit rate on QBs seems to be very low past the 2nd round.

Yep. Time for us to pick one early, either this year or next. We are wasting our time with these mid-round guys, looking for what is essentially a once every blue moon football miracle.

Ideally we identify and acquire that guy this year, and allow him to sit behind Carr for a year.

Yeah, the hit rate is very low past the 2nd and we have been trying this since 1981 with essentially no success. We have found a solid backup or two, i.e. Chase Daniel, but we haven't hit on a good starter. I'm fine if they keep trying because you might find a gem or at least a backup, but at some point you have to go for a guy in the 1st or 2nd that you think will be a good starter. We just can't keep doing nothing but mid-round picks at QB and then being forced to sign washed up vets, journeymen, or high priced mid-level guys that cost too much money as starters.

Agreed. Barron is not the guy I ideally want, but if they think he can start as an outside CB or play the Slot/Star position in Staley's defense then I'd be good with the pick. I hate to spend another high draft pick at CB after what we invested for Kool-Aid and Taylor, but it's a really important position and we have a hole at one of the CB spots right now since we are likely to have 3 CBs on the field for most of games just like other NFL teams.
I've been coming around to Barron more and more. Elite grades in off man/zone coverage, which we'll be running now. He can play slot, dime, and safety if needed. He played all over the secondary and was great everywhere Texas put him. I think that speaks to the level of natural athlete he is.

We have depth issues at both corner and safety, so it'd be great to have a starter caliber corner that can fill the gaps as needed for when the inevitable injury hits.

Plus, while Alonte Taylor is who most have penned in as the Slot, I think there's a chance he plays outside. IIRC, he played boundary in a heavy quarters coverage system during his time at UT, which is why the draft community thought he'd transition to safety when we drafted him. I think he's at his best when he can leverage guys into the boundary with his length and erase deep threats with his long speed. The 2 way breaks from the slot is where he struggles in coverage IMO. Barron gives you the option to play guys wherever they fit best, and would probably see more immediate snaps than just about any other player we'd draft in round 1.

I’m not a Ewers fan. But I’m glad to be wrong if Moore likes him and believes he can turn him into a franchise QB.

I’ll never be mad at spending resources on QBs

I feel the same.

I think Ewers matured in a notable way but along with that, I think he developed into a lower ceiling collegiate player than the brash, dynamic kid he seemed to be as a top recruit out of high school.

He played with a lot of talent, allowing him to have a solid enough career, but it feels like he was in a great position to really boost his stock and that didn't happen. If it was a reported injury that held him back, that raises other questions and concerns.

If he still has a lot of room to grow and Moore thinks he can get that out of him, could be a nice surprise. But I can't deny I'd hope the team looks elsewhere to address the position and he's only a backup plan if other moves don't fall their way.
