RB Ashton Jeanty as the Saints 1st pick? (6 Viewers)

I wouldn't hate it but would love it someone would give us a first rd pick next year to trade up for him.. along wither 1st this year and hopefully a 3rd thus year or next

That would be a difficult BPA for me. OTOH, McKinstry (who was a trade-up IiRC) seemed redundant but enabled the Lattimore trade. Kamara, Miller, Jeanty seems like a rather formidable stable of RBs—and that’s not even including Hill.

Could be wrong, but I think the rationale at the time had more to do with Adebo. I think we were anticipating him getting a huge contract somewhere else after this season, and McKinstry was an effort to reload.

I think you’re right about that. In any case it seemed curious at the time but makes sense now.

I almost hope another team drafts Jeaunty ahead of the Saints, and this discussion becomes irrelevant. 🙂

I can see Dallas in the trade market to move up and draft Jeanty. As for us, I think we need to leave the first two rounds with two or three players that immediately upgrade our team. Tough to do as players usually take some time to develop, but RBs are usually ready sooner than most. Especially if they show up already knowing how to pass protect.

Our first pick in second round would be the sweet spot for a game changer at RB or TE. But that depends on who is available at our first round pick. I'd lean DL or OL or an elite possession receiver type if there is one. That being said, if we only have an early first round grade on a couple players available at 10, you either draft one of them, regardless of position or try to trade back.

Didnt see it discussed in this thread, but we really cant guess what our draft strategy is going to look like. The new coach and staff isnt going to be SP or DA for the first time in a couple decades. A lot will depend on the draft and roster philosophy of the new regime.
