Referee for Sunday Night (3 Viewers)

Does there really have to be a ref from North Texas on the crew?

Oh well, I guess I see every one of the NFC contending areas represented.
He may live or be from somewhere else. I went to college in Ohio, but that fact has no relevance now in terms of supporting Cleveland or Cincinnati. Team loyalty depends on a lot of factors as the membership on this board proves.
If this guy is a federal agent, maybe he's a Redskins fan living in the D.C. area. North Carolina Charlotte should be just as concerning. But all of this speculation is just silly in my view.

So how can a side judge screw us on calls, other than the obvious blowing the whistle when it was a clear fumble-TD return?

Let me count the ways...
Offsides, holding, false starts, pass interference, catch/no catch, clock, ball placement...

And, while officials have assignments and look for specific things, they can call or over rule any infraction they say they saw or didn't see.

Here's a picture of our head referee.

Edit: And I'd still prefer him to Vinovich.

I couldn't help but laugh the second I saw this picture. He looks like he has a bottle top screwed on top of his head! Im sorry to interrupt the conversation, but I am still laughing ??

Back to the previous talking points.....

Looks as though we will have Carl Cheffers and crew.
im way passed caring who the refs are, they will cheat and refuse to call games correctly no matter who is there. reviews must be taking 100% completely out of the hands of refs and done by independent 3rd parties not controlled by the NFL

maybe just have each teams stadium event staff randomly chosen to review calls, they at least would be less bias to protect bad calls

Cheffers’ crew has been fair to us over the years, but so was Vinovich’s until the NFC Championship so take what I’m about to post with a whole box of salt...

Cheffers has been in the white hat for 13 of our games during the Payton Era. In that span we’ve amassed a 12-1 record with splits of 8-1 in New Orleans and 4-0 on the road. Here’s the list of games in that span:
  • 2009 Week 13 @ Redskins, 33-30 W
  • 2011 Week 9 vs. Buccaneers, 27-16 W
  • 2012 Week 5 vs. Chargers, 31-24 W
  • 2013 Week 17 vs. Buccaneers, 42-17 W
  • 2014 Week 5 vs. Buccaneers, 37-31 W
  • 2014 Week 15 @ Bears, 31-15 W
  • 2015 Week 2 vs. Buccaneers, 19-26 L
  • 2015 Week 7 @ Colts, 27-21 W
  • 2016 Week 15 @ Cardinals, 48-41 W
  • 2017 Week 8 vs. Bears, 20-12 W
  • 2018 Week 5 vs. Redskins, 43-19 W
  • 2018 Week 11 vs. Eagles, 48-7 W
  • 2018 Divisional vs. Eagles, 20-14 W
In recent years his crew’s number of flags seem to have gone down for the most part with the exception of the Divisional playoff game last year (which was an “all-star” crew and not his normal cronies) and more than half the games (8 of the 13) were called relatively evenly regarding penalties.
His crew doesn’t seem to be overly “flag happy”, but they also aren’t loosely officiated.

Edit: I’m just now realizing Cheffers has nearly an entirely new crew this year with the exception of his side judge so yeah, this may be a bumpy one.

Cheffers also officiates the snap very tightly (he called Brees for a false start in Week 11 last year for his hand gesture/head bob) so Bridgewater has to be on his P’s and Q’s regarding that.

With all that said, these are all generalizations and can be as worthless as the words on your screen are, but form your own conclusions.
Hmmm. That divisional game against the Eagles was questionable. That was the game that featured the 125+ yard drive. It shouldn't have been close but we sealed the win with an interception that went through Alshon's hands if I remember correctly.

Nah. Not going to overthink it. We have a tough matchup and need to play a mistake free game and just hope the refs do a good job.

It was very questionable, but that’s what happens with these “all-star” crews the League is so hellbent on having. ?

Side judge was the position that screwed us in the championship game along with the Line Judge so there you go, plus it was the Referee that blew that whistle not the Side Judge on the fumble.

Side Judge doesnt call offsides and false starts. That's Line Judge and Head Linesman.

Well, if it helps, he has a second home in SW Colorado.
