No FC Yards Avg Long TD

Bush, Reggie, N.O. 27 9 130 4.8 23 0
Should we look for a replacement punt returner? 4.8 yards is not too good, compared to some of the better PR's in the NFL like DeSean Jackson (15.2), Josh Cribbs (11.9), Wes Welker (12.5), etc.

Granted, Reggie was nursing his injury early in the season, and it seemed like he was trying to take it easy, so maybe he will be better this season. But if not, should we be looking at a new Punt returner? Maybe Larry Beaver if he proves himself?

Most teams directional punt when Reggie is out there, pinning him against the sidelines. That also makes the punts shorter so we still get those missing yards.

It's not like teams aren't doing the exact same thing against D. Jackson...

I dunno, if he muffs another punt I wouldn't mind putting someone new back there

Edit: Why neg rep for pointing about obvious?

In 08 he had 13.8 and brought back 3 for td's. So maybe it was his injuries or him being extra cautious.

Edit: WTH with the neg reps. I guess you cant be critical of any Saints Player whatsoever in here, eh?

Don`t quote me on this but at mini camp coach was running punt return drills and was alternating Reggie,Lance, and Courtney. So maybe this season well see some surprises on punt returns.
But the video below is the reason Reggie should be returning punts.:9:

Nobody is trying to bash Bush, no doubt he is a dynamic and amazing player, and extremely important to our offense. But I dont see anything wrong with exploring our options at PR. We are set at KR, Roby was top 5 in the NFC in yards per avg.

Save Reggie for offense where he is better suited, if he doesn't get better at PR.

No doubt. Reggie was on in 08, as I pointed out. But im talking abou 2010. You might be right though, Im not saying throw him to the side. I just dont see why we shouldn't be exploring other options.

Grant it, Reggie was nursing his injury early in the season, and it seemed like he was trying to take it easy, so maybe he will be better this season. But if not, should we be looking at a new Punt returner? Maybe Larry Beaver if he proves himself?

He was intensely frustrating and unproductive in the role last year; at other points, he's been game-changing. His performance in that role last year was not what we needed, but it's hard to deny him the opportunity because he's occasionally been so electrifying. If Rod Harper found a way to stick on the roster, he was very promising as a punt returner last preseason with two returned kicks for touchdowns. We've rarely put Reggie back there full-time, and he could be a more attractive alternate than Lance Moore. Either way, we need more production and less mistakes than we got out of the punt return game last year.

ROD HARPER deserves a shot back there if he can stay healthy, but he'll need to be able to tackle pretty well because he will earn his living (at least early on) on side of roby as a gunner on st

Reggie can be effective back there with better blocking an more chances I think but he does put some balls on the ground an needs to work on his concentratino catching the ball a bit more..

Reggie needs to just trust his instincts and get moving forward on punt returns. Sometimes he hesitates after he catches the ball and it hurts him. When he doesn't hesitate he is an awesome PR.

He was nursing an injury during the season, along with coming off an injury from the previous season. That and the blocking on ST had a lot to do with it rather than Reggie's abilities in general. We seen how effective he was as a PR in the divisional game against Arizona once he was fully healthy. I wouldn't put too much blame on him for the muffed punt against Minnesota because he probably was feeling the pressure of how important that games was and the impact he thought he had to make to change the momentum of the game since the score was so close. Now that he's having an injury free offseason, everyone should expect him to be not only dynamic as he was in the '08 season but to really have an impact offensively.

That punt return for a td against the Cards in the playoffs was a thing of beauty. I think he's a special weapon back there and I hope he continues to return punts.
