Reggie as a punt returner (1 Viewer)

Don`t quote me on this but at mini camp coach was running punt return drills and was alternating Reggie,Lance, and Courtney. So maybe this season well see some surprises on punt returns.
But the video below is the reason Reggie should be returning punts.:9:

MAN those were some sick blocks. I wish he took that 3rd one back too. lol I was at that game, and it was an absolute tragedy to lose..oh well, at least we got revenge. :hihi:

Kickoffs are more for guys with great vision that don't dance around. That's why RBs like Pierre and Deuce do it (until they became starters)

No kickoffs are for your backups because the people coming to tackle him have run more than 40 yards untouched as soon as the ball is even caught by the returner. That's too much potential for someone our offense features so heavily to get hurt. Situationally? I wouldn't mind it, but our permanent KR? Hell no.

I wouldn't mind seeing Larry Beavers get a shot though. But he doesn't sound all that much faster than Courtney Roby, so...yeah. I think we're good with Roby on KR and Reggae Bush on PR.

Well yeah, thats why I said until they start. Besides injuries, you don't want your starting RB or WR to be winded on first down after having to run half the field and get hit. But it was Pierre that jumpstarted our winning drive in the NFCC when Roby went down and the offense couldn't seem to get much done.

No. SP has stated that the reason he uses PT on kickoffs and not Reggie is that the risk of injury to kick returners is higher, and he believes Reggie is too valuable to risk.

Lots of players will get their shot at returning punts this year but when the game's on the line, or if it's playoff time, you can bet Reggie will be back there.

It would be a waste of his skill set to not let him return punts. Like others have said, most teams don't give him anything returnable. It's usually sacrificing distance for hang time and direction. When they do make a mistake and kick to him, he can make them pay. And to all the "experts" that like to tell him how to return kicks, please just stop. The dude's made a living out of it in high school, college and in the pros. His 2009 numbers are a direct reflection of his 2008 numbers. He got so much respect this year that he didn't really get many chances.

This. I think he should keep returning them especially if we need a shot in the arm in a game. if he doesn't return them then who will? nobody imo can do what he does on punt returns on this team. rod harper returned a punt on dudes that are probably delivering pizzas right not so dont come at me with that. moore returned punts but does anybody remember any of his punts? i dont. who else??

Tough call. His production on punt returns bears watching though.

You all keep say nobody can do what he does...but look at the numbers. He's not doing much. His yard average is bad, and he brought one back in the playoffs but that was against some real bad coverage. Not to mention him putting a few on the ground. Now, like many pointed we need to get better on blocking for him, which is true. But I dont see anything wrong with looking for other option. Who? I dont know, thats what training camp is for.

then we will have to wait and see. but as of right not i dont see anybody unseating him.

had rod harper not been hurt I believe he would have seen alot of time at punt returner last year. I expect for him to make a push this season and get some playing time.

Roby, imo, is the best punt returner on the team because he rarely ever loses yards.

I hate it when Reggie returns because he used to fumble or run backwards. He's mostly gotten over that, but I still think Roby is the better returner. He's super-fast, as is Reggie, but Roby seems to run downhill more consistently and, to me, seems to get better yardage usually.

I haven't looked up any stats, so feel free to correct me if Reggie has a higher return average.

Basically, Reggie has his moments of supreme greatness and bad goofups, whereas Roby is overall consistently better at returns, but only has a truly "great" run every now and then.
