Report: Saints 1 of 9 teams scheduled to formally meet with Boise St. RB Ashton Jeanty at NFL Combine (35 Viewers)

I think he’ll be a good RB. But if we pass on taking Tet or one of these edge guys to draft Jeanty at #9, I’ll be depressed for a month.
But what if those you mentioned aren't there at 9, then what?

This is a new coaching staff so maybe it will be a different result, but the previous coaching staffs going all the way back to Payton couldn't identify talent in the trenches or develop it into anything more than average, if they even got to average. I'd rather go a different direction at #9. Heck, draft a kicker at #9 if he's going to be good. Just not another Edge or O-line that's going to do nothing.
One thing the Saints were good at during the Payton era.....was hit on their Oline pics. Were they did struggle was drafting defensive linemen.

Running Back is not a priority position with Kamara and dare I say Miller and you can find help at that position in the later rounds, we have to get an impact player on defense or offense in the form of a DE/Pass Rusher and WR with the #9 pick. (IMHO)

I think we have drafted players we have never met with and met with players we didn’t draft

Based on that list Giants are only threat to us barring a trade

Don’t know anything about the player, not a college football fan outside of lsu

Though don’t want a RB that high or a QB at all due to oline issues
Teams share information they get from private meetings with those teams they trust to give accurate evaluations. By the time the private meetings are over every team has information on every player.

Plenty of potential star NFL running backs in this draft class. I wouldn't "hate" picking Jeanty at #9, but I think there's value at RB in round 3 and 4. One of the Ohio State backs maybe, and I really like the Oklahoma State RB who will probably still be there at the end of round 4 as a compliment to AK.

That being said... if we were to draft Jeanty and he turned out to be the next Sequan or Henry, folks around here would forget how high we took him soon enough.

He's not getting outside of the top 9 picks...we're the floor. That's interesting...need to get a good gauge just incase a team is willing to trade a farm to draft him. Ollie Gordon in the 3rd would be WAY better value for a 2/3 back system.

As for the others, Mykel Williams seems like a complete and utter bust waiting to happen while flaws in Pearce's game have been identified to the point that some suspect he could have a massive day 1 drop. I haven't watched Pearce Jr, so I can't really say.
He won't bust he'll be good w/ potential to be elite. They don't make many guys w/ 35inch Arms, and his game is very reminiscent of Aldon Smith. The question is can you maximize his super power and can he learn to use that reach advantage consistently. I'm always looking for Outliers in players and that guy has one that no one else does.

I'm interested in what he actually measures.

Even if every team in front of us took an edge guy, there's probably 2-3 more who'd be worth drafting at #9. But in reality, I'd take Mason Graham in that scenario.
He won't be there, if Graham should somehow slide to 9 and we don't take him, I might go nuclear. Other than that, I'm probably OK with any other realistic No. 9 caliber choice, including Jeanty because of AK41's age and Miller's health history. ... Now if we overreach for a Jackson Dart, or even take Shedeur at No. 9, I won't be happy. I don't think any QB in this draft is worth a Top 10 pick for a team like us which has so many other needs.

I was being a little facetious. There will be an edge guy available who would be worth the #9 pick. Likely Walker and/or Green. I'd take either before Jeanty. And if perchance, they're gone (along with Tet and Tyler Warren) I'm looking for a trade down. And if I couldn't find a trade partner I'd take the best OL available.

I like Jeanty but look at it this way.

Alvin is playing 60% of your snaps if he's healthy because he's going to be your 3rd down back. There isn't a rookie RB in this draft that's going to beat out Kamara for those duties. That means Jeanty would be splitting time w/ Miller/Clyde Edwards for the other 40%. The only way Jeanty's value is maximized here is if both Alvin, Miller, CEH are all injured and Jeanty becomes the bellcow.

You want a guy who's only takign 40% of the snaps at most at 9?

Jeanty's value is to a team that doesn't have a #1 RB right now. A RB at 9 has value to some team...just not us. Doesn't make much sense when looking at our depth chart.

First of several links to the stories about who teams are meeting with. Teams meet with all the expected first-round picks. It's part of the process.

RB is deep in this draft, deeper I'd say than both QB and WR combined. Must rebuild from the inside out in FA and the draft. The trenches on both sides of the ball need to be prioritized. Who we end up signing in FA will dictate the draft.

There. All my stances in just a few words! :giggle:

And agreed with Ellias up above me in that Jeanty makes most sense for a team with a better o-line than us, but no RB1. We have one in Kamara and we have a lot of untapped production in Miller, who was among those screwed over by DA, as we found out.

It would be nice to get him, but I see RB as a luxury when you look at the holes on our roster. We need a top tier receiver with a big body more than we need a RB. Either that or a TE/Guard. Defensively, we need help at Corner, Safety, LB & DT, & DE. The FA period will be telling to see what holes we fix before the draft. Way too hard to say what we will do until we see what moves they make prior.
