Rizzi: Rattler and Haener will compete in practice to see who starts vs Commanders (6 Viewers)

I agree...how can you properly gameplan if you don't know who the starting QB is?

In Rizzi’s words there not much difference between both players as they have similar styles of play.

There will be nuanced differences in the gameplan being that one guy may be better at something than the other, but for the most part the gameplan will be similar no matter who starts

It's like preseason again - they're competing for a starting gig for the remainder of the season. I'm sorry to say that WLT record is no longer the objective, it's time to evaluate who we have at the position.

I like it.... no point in giving any edge to the opponent. They know whose starting why give Wash. defense time to game plan for a more pocket or the more mobile quarterback.

Yes and No. If it's just for the public, sure. But if they really don't know at this point of the season who they want starting then they should be unemployed when the season is over.

They know who they want to start they just cant afford to lose any small edge because the 2 quarterbacks do not equal 1 Mid NFL starter at this point in their careers. It justs adds a small stressor for the DC of Washington.

Works both ways though right? By all accounts it’s not a facade the QBs truly split snaps in practice.

Sure it keeps the opposing team guessing but it has a similar effect on your own team. Receivers have to get used to timing w/ 2 different QBs, OL deals w/ different cadences too yes?

This is what I expected Allen to do earlier in the season wait to the last minute to name the starter. Rizzi said they would decide by Tuesday. Just because he didn't pull a DA and announce it immediately doesn't mean he doesn't know. He also said Carr has a chance to go this week, but yet and still they signed another QB. So to me all signs say Carr is out but he wants them to prepare for all 3.

That's simply not true. If they both have their positives and negatives, who you go with isn't always obvious. That's true with a lot of things. Making decisions like this isn't an exact science, and if they're close, you give consideration to both.

That said, I tend to think it's more about not tipping off the opponent as to who you're starting. There's not a big difference between the 2, but I think you have more game film on Rattler, so the defense would have a better idea how to defend him than Haener who has a more limited body of work to pick apart.

They're pros though. And they've all been working together for months. It's not going to hurt them in the least.
