I agree with St James in principal...but I just read the second part of your post (which it's not letting me quote for some reason) and damn is that impressive!!
While I would still rather Dorsey or Ellis (I think, and will always think, that DL is more influential than secondary), those numbers blow my socks off
Far more, in fact, than a good 40 time. I'm not particularly interested at how fast someone can run 40 yards in a straight line. Has nothing to do with football ability or football athleticism. The shuttles and other positional drills actually give a (slightly) truer reflection of footballing athleticism in my opinion.
Agree 100% that improving your DL improves your secondary.
I agree also about running 40 yards in a straight line doesn't prove much, but I watched DRC's 40's and the explosion off the line was the most impressive to me. But I agree; I can't wait to see what he does in the positional drills. And yet the better he does, the more likely that the Patriocheats will take him...
I read somewhere that the Pats don't value DB's or CB's (forgot where though) that high...and also let's not forget that they LOVE to trade down.
They are probably looking at a DE/OLB (Gholston, Harvey etc).

Well I don't imagine they're going to let Samuel walk because he's too expensive...only to turn around and hand a rookie CB a $20 million dollar signing bonus. I would imagine the Patriots priority list looks like this
Chris Long/Vernon Ghoulston
Darren McFadden
maybe Jake Long
Trade-out of the pick
I just can't see them spending #7 overall money on anyone else there.

It's interesting, I've seen at least half a dozen mocks showing the Pats taking a CB (usually McKelvin, but a couple had Jenkins). But I agree; that's not a position they'd want to pay top 10 money for.
And let's see how the various collegiate pro days change things!
...
When he met with Pats’ brass, Rodgers-Cromartie said, they asked the standard questions but also were the first team to ask him to draw up a defensive play.
“It threw me off-guard a bit,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I was expecting to answer personal questions like everybody else was asking me and then you got, ‘Draw up a defense for me.’ ”
What did he come up with? A cover-2, because it was easy.
