Rodgers-Cromartie...4.28 40 yard dash' (merged) (3 Viewers)

I agree with St James in principal...but I just read the second part of your post (which it's not letting me quote for some reason) and damn is that impressive!!

While I would still rather Dorsey or Ellis (I think, and will always think, that DL is more influential than secondary), those numbers blow my socks off

Far more, in fact, than a good 40 time. I'm not particularly interested at how fast someone can run 40 yards in a straight line. Has nothing to do with football ability or football athleticism. The shuttles and other positional drills actually give a (slightly) truer reflection of footballing athleticism in my opinion.

Agree 100% that improving your DL improves your secondary.

I agree also about running 40 yards in a straight line doesn't prove much, but I watched DRC's 40's and the explosion off the line was the most impressive to me. But I agree; I can't wait to see what he does in the positional drills. And yet the better he does, the more likely that the Patriocheats will take him...

I read somewhere that the Pats don't value DB's or CB's (forgot where though) that high...and also let's not forget that they LOVE to trade down.

They are probably looking at a DE/OLB (Gholston, Harvey etc).

Well I don't imagine they're going to let Samuel walk because he's too expensive...only to turn around and hand a rookie CB a $20 million dollar signing bonus. I would imagine the Patriots priority list looks like this

Chris Long/Vernon Ghoulston
Darren McFadden
maybe Jake Long
Trade-out of the pick

I just can't see them spending #7 overall money on anyone else there.

I don't even think the Patriots know what to do with a top 10 draft pick. Although picking a DE/OLB (Even Groves would fit well in their scheme) seems the most likely. I don't see them taking a CB at #7, especially DRC. Remember this is the team that cut everyone of their draft picks last year except for Merriweather.

I don't even need to see the drills, I watched the Senior Bowl and knew the kid could play. All this does is seal the deal.

If Ellis isn't available, I want DRC.

Exactly.

I think we have maybe only a few hurdles to get over, to draft Cromartie...

1: The Pats don't take him (we just discussed on them passing him, but you never know).
2: If the Pats trade down...the team that gets that pick, are they looking at Cromartie?
3: The Ravens don't take him, I don't think they need CB but I've seen mocks them taking a CB.
4: Some team out of the blue trades up before us and takes him (Ravens/Bengals slot).

After that, we should be able to get him with ease.

The Pats won't take a DB, Bellicheat can plug almost anyone in and get results, see Brown, Troy.

tHAT WAS IMPRESSIVE!!!!! Please GOD let him come to us!!

It's interesting, I've seen at least half a dozen mocks showing the Pats taking a CB (usually McKelvin, but a couple had Jenkins). But I agree; that's not a position they'd want to pay top 10 money for.

And let's see how the various collegiate pro days change things!

I also read that Justin King (Penn State) ran a 4.3....I hope we dont get caught up in these times cause alot of players at alot of postions who nobody thought about are really performing well at this combine (speed wise) it cant catipult everybody into first rounders, so I think we will get some good players in the later rounds (alot of teams will)

DRC participated in all drills and our staff like players from small schools he's a hungry football player and would be a pro bowler his 2nd year...

I'm not sure how interested the Pats are at taking DRC at #7 but they did show a lot of interest in him at the Combine....

...
When he met with Pats’ brass, Rodgers-Cromartie said, they asked the standard questions but also were the first team to ask him to draw up a defensive play.

“It threw me off-guard a bit,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I was expecting to answer personal questions like everybody else was asking me and then you got, ‘Draw up a defense for me.’ ”

What did he come up with? A cover-2, because it was easy.

what was his veritical?

38.5 in., NFL.com lists him as the top performer with a half inch over Aqib Talib. DRC just moved into the top 20. I wouldn't be mad if the Saints took him at #10.
