Saints 1st pick 2024 (1 Viewer)

I agree about the health factor with Peat. I didn't say overpay for Peat but he performed decent enough at LT. Perhaps a one year deal at LT to help motivate him for one last payout as LT pay is considerably higher than guard pay.

As for Penning, if Marrone can't salvage something (with his track record) then yes, I'm all for cutting sling and letting go of the bust. I think too many times, we as fans, expect a 100% hit on draft picks and that simply doesn't happen.
WHAT TRACK RECORD??? His OL's in Jax were putrid, He was OL coach @ Georgia in 2000 they were now good . He had to have multiple all -pro O linemen to have a good OL here .

Yup, we are low on draft capital. SMDH
At least last year's class seems like a hit. Bresee, Perry, Miller and Howden are all contributors. Saldiveri and Foskey could still develop. Haener is the only question mark.

Only thing I can agree with in this post is that Penning is salvageable
Marrone is AWFUL , our OL has regressed EVERY yr since he got here. Saban fired him after ONE yr and there is a reason. The only good OL he EVER had was here in 06 and that's not because he coached up Evans, Strief, Bushrod, Stinchcomb . LOL they HAD the talent.
If he's so great what has the same OL that was decent to good dropped off a cliff in the 2 yrs he's been here?
In 2006, the Saints led the NFL in yards of total offense and you don't get that without a coach who can work with an OL which included a 2nd year player in J Brown @ LT (having moved from RT to LT), a NFL Journeyman in J. Nesbit at LG, J. Faine at C (after being traded from the Browns), a rookie from a Division II school in the 4th Rd starting at RG in J. Evans, and J. Stinchcomb at RT (who I believe was a second round pick).

In 2007, the Saints dropped to 4th with the same offensive line.

In 2008, the Saints were back at #1 of total offense after C. Nicks (a 5th round pick) was inserted into the lineup and that doesn't happen without a coach who knows how to get the best out of an OL. This doesn't account for the Drew Brees factor, but he had time in the pocket and was one of the least sacked QBs in the game.

This years OL was patchwork garbage due to injuries and diminished play from players executing poorly. The talent level from his first stint to his second stint is night and day different so yeah- I'm about giving the man ONE more year.
