I've been crying for this to happen for YEARS. The booth officials see the exact same videos that the networks are replaying in ultra slow motion for the viewing audience. There is absolutely no reason to let a blown call go uncorrected or unchallenged simply because the officials were blocked out or looking away at that moment.
This helps the league to GET IT RIGHT and not delay the resumption of play any longer than necessary. Let the Sky Judge Booth RULE!
The rule (likely) still needs to be defined properly and made official. But the basic rule should be, 'If the TV viewers can clearly see the right call, then make it the official call before allowing the next snap.'My only issue with it is just that it feels kind of unfair how sometimes a call can be corrected by officials and sometimes your team has to use a challenge to get it done.
I still have not seen any official language on when it’s okay to use and when not. It seems very helpful, but too arbitrary.
Is there a time limit? Are there certain reviewable errors the sky judge can correct and others he can’t? Does a team’s challenge situation play a role in it?
None of this is published anywhere to my knowledge.
It actually has been happening for years. They just denied it officially. New York would get in the head refs ear and the officials would huddle up as if they were discussing the call when really the head ref was just talking to New York.I've been crying for this to happen for YEARS.
