Saints are interviewing Dolphins WR coach /former Boise State OC Robert Prince for Offensive Coordinator (1 Viewer)

Yeah, I get that. Your last comment was odd. McVay has went a few years without an OC, so he was the OC/HC, but I'm sure he delegated most day to day OC stuff to his position group coaches, etc.

I do agree, guys who act more like Coordinators and not HCs don't last long. Sirianni had to relinquish his meddling and let KM do his thing for the Eagles to get over the hump.
What I meant is that McVay already had a staff established to promote from when his first OC left, where Moore is still building from the ground up.

His first OC was Matt LaFleur. Once he left, McVay promoted Aaron Kromer to RGC and Shane Waldron to PGC (didn’t have those positions before), and those two took over the day-to-day coordinator duties. The staff stayed that way for two years before McVay hired O’Connell as OC. Two years later, he left and was replaced by Coen. A year later, Mike Lafleur took over.

Robert Prince is more than just a friend doing a favor to Kellen. He was Boise State’s WR coach when Kellen was there. Then became Boise State’s offensive coordinator for the next 2 seasons. Also was WR coach on Kellen’s staff in Dallas.

Previous offensive coordinator stints at two other colleges. Passing game coordinator experience. Also coached other offensive positions in the NFL.

He has an extensive, qualified offensive coaching resume spanning 3 decades. Based on his exp, he’s a very strong candidate for Saints OC and any team’s OC vacancy really.
So if he’s not hired…. What’s your story then?

Point is he’s a legitimate candidate with a very qualified background. He has ties to Kellen like the Eagles coaches and actually more history. He can’t be dismissed as just checking a box is all that was stated.

Then the Dolphins can (and should) block the interview, because it would be considered a lateral move. Coordinators do more than just call plays, and if Moore is still acting as an OC while HC, his career will be short.
Going from WR coach to OC is a promotion. Thats not a lateral move right?

I didn't think this is RR. I think he's a legitimate candidate
It can be both. It's not disrespectful to say a coach is interviewed as part of the Rooney Rule. It's disrespectful to say that's the only reason he's being interviewed.

There are a lot of good coaches that satisfy the Rooney Rule, so I doubt teams are just randomly picking names out of a hat. I'm pretty sure they're able to find at least a handful of those candidates that they would be comfortable with hiring. Even when they have a specific coach they want to hire for whatever reason, I think they still interview coaches that they would sincerely consider hiring if they didn't already have someone specific coach they wanted to hire for whatever reasons.

Interviewing is a good way to network even when not hired. Like all things in life, when all other things are equal between two people, we have a big tendency to choose someone we have some kind of connection to. The more a coach interviews, the more opportunity to create more connections.

Solid answer!

You have to ask yourself, If Kellen Moore is going to call plays, how important is whoever they get as OC?

I'm sure they'll have something to do, but c'mon, DA ran the defense, who was his DC? I don't even remember.

Not calling plays on GameDay does not mean your not involved in the install.

The title is still considered a promotion and puts eyes on you for future consideration.
