Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (1 Viewer)

For the record, I am totally opposed to trading for Adams if any draft compensation of note is involved. A second-round pick would be insane. This team, though it has played better than I thought, is not a serious contender because of serious weakness in both lines and overall lack of depth. In terms of talent, we are not a top team. And if the team wants to bolster its roster to make a run in 2024, there are plenty of positions that concern me more than wide receiver.
I agree RJ. We need to focus on O line first and foremost. Not sexy but crucial as evident by our current situation.

So folks here would be fine with trading a 2nd and more (plus picking up more dead cap space) for a 10 game rental?

This makes less sense by the page.
With the way our luck with 2nd rounders has been..absolutely. I think it would almost have to include players, though, to make it work.

Raiders eat a bunch of salary

Seems fair to me, I don’t care about the cap ramifications, Khai will figure it out
Never would work and shouldn't.

Not sure of his innocence or guilt, I was referring to his bad play and terrible fully guaranteed contract lol.
Lots of reasons that’s going to go down as the worst signing in NFL history. Albert Haynesworth was really bad but the circumstances in this one are just brutal. Browns fans are to the point that they’re hoping he gets convicted of a crime to exploit a loophole to get rid of the guy.

If we trade for Adams I will be disappointed. Wide receiver isn't our problem, and trading for $71mm over the next two seasons will be a major problem.
Our problem is that we aren’t good enough. Yes, the OL is in shambles but are two drives away from being 4-0 in spite of that and there is no legit way to improve the OL. You say that WR isn’t our problem but that is with Olave and Shaheed healthy, which we all know is not sustainable. Adams undoubtedly makes this a better team…he’s easily a top 10 WR, and with a long history of success with Carr. I truly believe it would be best for both Olave and Shaheed as well. They’re both great players but I don’t love the hits Olave takes every game…and teams have adjusted to playing Shaheed after the first two weeks. Adding Adams opens everything up and puts our other WRs in favorable positions. One of the ways to get around having a bad OL is by having a WR that can simply win less than ideal passes. Adams is easily one of the best in the game at contested passes…and that is NOT Olave’s and Shaheed’s game. They’re great separators but Adams catches the ball even when a defender has good coverage.

The fact that part of the arguments against Adams here is a one year rental is interesting. Do you really think the Saints would consider trading for him w/ out renegotiating his contract? That was the very first thing reported that any team involved would likely want to renegotiate his contract prior to trade. So why is that still an argument?

Doesn't it make more sense to just say you don't want to make the trade because you don't like the salary cap ramifications vs using an erroneous argument to make your point?

Other note - Wide receiver is absolutely a problem. There's a reason the teams that run this scheme invest heavily at the skill position, the scheme relies heavily on talent there. 49ers drafted a WR instead of a T, Texans traded for a WR, Rams are known for drafting a ton of WR's. And yet, none of those teams invest heavily into the OL position. Ask yourself why?

Yeah, again, we all know the reason why Carter was such a force. And we also know that McCoy is not going to be playing for at least another 5-7 weeks (according to reports).

The oline was very good the frist 2 weeks, then they weren't. So was the entire offense and the WRs. Wonder what changed?

WR is not a position of need. Who wins popularity contests among sorts writers is irrelevant to me.

Yup….agreed. I could see giving up a 3rd maybe….but a 2nd on a soon to be 32 year old WR? Smacks of desperation…..

Cool. We'll have another good WR that Carr won't have time to throw to.
That too.

We have good wide receivers. We don’t need to add an expensive one who Carr won’t have time to throw to. Plus, who even knows what Adams has left in the tank at this point?

In closing, don’t make the trade unless you are willing to set this team back 2-3 years, all for a chance on a powerball ticket.

NO team he goes to is going to take on the remainder of his contract. NO TEAM. He's going to have to rework that contract no matter where he goes. NO ONE is paying him 35 + mil in 25 and 26
There’s a huge difference between taking on the entire contract, and the amount that we would need them to take on. Jets have way more cap space the next 2 years than we do.
