Saints Cap Moves: $33,780,933 cap space ….. 8 restructures, 3 extensions, 3 pay cut, 1 release [All current cap moves are in OP below line] (130 Viewers)

I don't think it's likely, but maybe Carr starting was the plan but Carr got pissed because they asked him to take a pay cut and wants to be traded. That would explain why they initially came out declaring they wanted Carr to start and restructured his deal. They may have thought Carr would get over it but maybe he, or more likely his agent, is making noise that makes them think it won't be a good situation to keep Carr against his wishes?

I'm obviously speculating and none of this seems likely, but that's one explanation for how things have gone down.
Who is Carr's agent?

what makes me think there something going on, besides the silence itself. Is that they cleared a ton of space then whiffed. Ok that space was for the three they whiffed on. OK But why continue to clear cap room? This tells me the space wasnt necessarily for the free agents. Then it must be for Carr and to get rid of him after june 1st? (Carr knows this, and this is why he didnt show up for anything and is silent now). Does this make sense cap wise? Maybe we're drafting Dart at 9 or moving up? Hmm, As im writing this im remembering AKs tweet.
Isn't this similar to the way we cleared space in the pursuit of Watson? We cleared a bunch of space going after him and even when it was apparent we were not getting him we still cleared more space.

Yea I don’t remember them clearing space after whiffing on Watson. (Not disagreeing, I just don’t remember) Maybe it’s just a due diligence clearing for the following year. However, that doesn’t answer why DC4 is mouse quiet. I think it’s been said enough by many, Mike Detilier, NoF, that DC4 should’ve gotten the message loud and clear, but yet.,more silence. Maybe I’m making something out of nothing.

With Watson, it was different. We were in pursuit of him while we adjusted our cap and made space. We are currently do this with no free agent that's going to command that type of money on the market right now.

DC is normally hardly ever on social media. The last thing he posted was on 1/1/25 saying he's praying for N.O. He didn't post anything last yr when KK was hired. Besides my guess is he knows that anything he posts, even if he comes out and says he loves CKM and the Saints it will get spun and interpreted they way the doomers want. So why say anything?

Maybe not 1 but it could be a couple guys

I can see New England making a trade for Carr now that they are suddenly going after Diggs.

They cant get Cam Ward..

Drake Maye and Josh Dobbs arent even close to carrying the torch..

just my opinion and a shot into the dark.

It does seem that we've cleared more space that was absolutely needed. But it could be that we went after players like Kupp and Ward and had a price set . When they signed for more than we wanted to pay we still had what we set aside for them.
I'm still hoping for a FA LG . Maybe DJ Chark?? He'd be cheap.
Thoughts on trading a 2nd or a 3rd rounder to Cincy for Hendrickson? I mean heck, we have the cap space now to kinda right that wrong. Didn’t Cincinnati finally give him permission to seek a trade anyway. They’re not getting a first for him.

If not man I’d be calling GB and asking what they want for Alexander

31 million under the cap? Could fit a contract of Trey Hendrickson with that.
I considered the same possibility. My first thought was that maybe the Saints have a trade agreement with a team and a new contract agreement with the player being trading and now they are making room so they can finalize the trade and contract.

Then I thought who would be good enough to command that much money, have a team willing to trade them away and be worth the cost of the trade. The first name, due to familiarity, that popped into my mind was Trey Hendrickson.

I'm sure there are other players that fit all 3 criteria that I'm not aware of. Is their a offensive lineman out there that might fit all 3? Are there any player at any other position?

I wouldn’t be mad if we splurged like that from a financial standpoint if he was already a free agent; I just don’t think it’s smart to do that AND fork over significant draft compensation.

That’s the sort of thing you do when you have a sure-fire, 15-2/14-3 type roster. Like a “You just lost the SB/championship game and want one final piece” type move.
It could be a situation were the Bengals are willing to trade him for lower than value just to get salary cap relief after the big contracts they just gave to their receivers, or to get something of value knowing they won't be able to retain him after this year.

Ross Jackson is currently speculating that the moves to gain more cap space point to moving Derek Carr this year.

Not a surprise. At this point almost everyone putting out content about the Saints try to make almost everything a sign that the Saints are moving Carr this season. It's not going to end until Carr is on the team on the first day of training camp or the Saints move Carr, whichever comes first.

Carr has always kept a really low profile during the off season. Other than the odd appearance on his nephew's podcast, he doesn't maintain any kind of public presence. He could very well be wanting to leave or discontent, but his lack of public comments or presence during the off season is normal for him.

When public figures are out of the public eye, people start speculating why that is, because we have a tendency not to be comfortable with the unknown.

It's the same dynamic as why, when in the dark, we tend to see shapes that aren't really there. We fill in the missing information with our imagination. Our brains don't like the unknown or randomness, so we are constantly imagining patterns and connections that don't exist.

When a public figure doesn't tell us what they're thinking, our imaginations create what we think they must be thinking, because it gives us a sense of knowing the unknown.
