Saints Cap Moves: McCoy/Carr restructures , Williams released; cap space is at -$9,539,537 (155 Viewers)

He nailed a ton of rumors way before any other "NFL Insider" picked them up last year. Was actually pretty funny to see guys like Schefter getting upset about that account breaking news before they could lol. So I'm pretty confident in most of the stuff that account puts out.
It would be funny if it was the Saints using that account to troll all of the "reporters" who like to mostly negatively speculate about the Saints.

Midseason firings rarely lead to anything. Who knows, maybe Rizzi sticks around as ST coach if DA survives the full season.

Interim HC records for 2024:

Rizzi (Saints): 3-5
Brown (Bears): 1-4
Ulbrich (Jets): 3-9

That's a .280 win percentage for the group VS a .333 win percentage for the coaches that were fired. Losing teams continued to lose.

Rizzi was the best of the group, but same as his predecessor, he found his wins against losing teams.

Yep. It’s a pointless exercise, and there is also the “threat” of the interim picking off a bunch of easy wins against weak opponents and pressure forming to have to stick with that person, which almost never works out as a long term plan.

Mickey always has/had a plan. Cant see how people don’t understand this. It may not fall in line with how they perceive business should be done, but this is Mickey’s wheelhouse. He just hasn’t shown us that he can flip the script for this next era
See this is the mindset that I will never understand. Just because Mickey has a "plan" doesnt mean he shouldnt bare the responsibility of failing. Anyone who is in the GM/President role has a plan but does it work? That should absolutely be grounds for scrutiny or make his seat hot.

I don't think ML operates in a vacuum. He just gets the guys that the HC wants, so much of that responsibility falls on the HC, not Loomis. Yes, there have certainly been some bad contracts, but when the HC says, "get me this guy and we have what it takes to get a championship", and that guy turns out to be a dud, that's not on Loomis.

I think that the way the Saints have operated under Payton and DA will change with Moore.
This is a huge problem. Anytime Mickey gets criticized for anything the default response is "oh he doesnt do anything". Mickey or Khai Harley has to be replaced with someone who knows football and not just rely on the HC to be a GM as well.

its crazy he was one of the best RB before signing with us. that should tell us a lot about the old coaching staff.
Negative, Ghost Rider. Just because he had an outlier 2023 doesn't mean he was one of the best RBs in the league. He scored more TDs that year than he has the rest of his career. He was a career 4.0 ypc RB when he got to NOLA, which makes him below average. One year doesn't make him one of the best backs in the league when the five previous seasons told us a very different story.

Why does Mickey or Harley have to be replaced in your opinion? Why do you disagree with Bill Parcels belief that the HC should be the one who picks players?

If Carr is going to be restructured, will it have to be before Monday? Pressumably?

This is just me spit-balling, but I’m starting to think that the team is waiting to see how Monday and Tuesday goes before turning in most of their transactions.

They’ve gotten into the habit of only creating space as they need it.

Obviously we have to get cap compliant, and there probably at least 2 or 3 moves we are going to make no matter what, but I’m guessing at least one of the big contracts, namely Carr’s, may determine exactly how we get there in conjunction with exactly how much space we actively need, if that makes sense.

I.E. Maybe Carr has agreed to a paycut (or some type of beneficial contract modification) but only for certain players or positions. Or maybe we have specific free agent targets, a couple of big ticket ones, and we are prepared to possibly go aggressive on the restructures contingent on how the tampering period goes.

I liked the signing of Williams two years ago, thinking he would have a solid impact however, these two years of his have been very forgettable. Easy cut.

The cap savings is certainly a big part of these moves but what gets me a little more excited is some necessary roster turnover that often comes with a new regime. I say, bring on the changes.
I thought he was gonna do well here too
