Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (66 Viewers)

I really like Rattler and I want to believe, but never seeing him connect on a deep ball leaves me concerned

Ideal situation for Saints:
1. Trade Carr to free us from his contract (understand he has no trade clause).
2. Free cap space and usher in the youth movement.
3. Cheat code (rookie contract QB) name Rattler as starter and build around him.

This helps fix the cap and advance the rebuild.
Our FO & HC will have to make it very clear to DC that he will be the backup QB this year if he doesn't agree to a trade.
We aren't going to cut him... so he can play for another team while we pay his salary.

I'm sure at his age he does not want to hold a clip board yet & he doesn't want to lose a year.

He had a couple of deep TD's this year that were called back on penalties...

He had a nice one at the Raiders game that I attended... Called back because of a BS holding call on Foster Moreau...

I would much rather Carr than Rattler if money wasn't an issue. But money is an issue, and we need to bite the bullet and cut Carr. Spencer is on a rookie contract, let him show us if he has anything next year and if not, then cool, we are rid of him and Carr's contract.

I just don’t see it. I think his ceiling is Case Keenum-ish.
Case Keenum has a win percentage of 45.45% in 66 starts.

Derek Carr has a win percentage of 45.56% in 169 starts.

Perhaps we should give Spencer Rattler more than 6 starts before talking about his ceiling.

I think Carr lost the FO after that Interview
I think Rattler's ability makes a Carr divorce more plausible, similar to the Broncos Russell divorce and Nix marriage.

The Broncos bit the bullet and got an as-capable you-get-cheaper option in Nix,, and Rattler may make that move more plausible for the Saints.

Are these the same execs who loved Dennis Allen enough to make him our head coach and didn’t want to can him and caused the owner to have to step in. Let’s hope they have no say in choosing our next qb.

We won't be paying much of his salary. We only owe him $10 in guaranteed money. Whatever he makes in 2025 will come back to us. The biggest issue is his prorated bonuses that moves to the cap as soon as we cut him which is only $1.3 million less than his cap number if we kept him.

I hear you, but they are also the same execs that have done a lot of good things for this team in the now more distant past. They are here regardless. Better they like the young QB making peanuts that they feel the need to go sign Sam Darnold on a deal with a bunch of void years.

Keenum had a weak arm...
You could not have picked a worse comparison...
This! Can’t believe I scrolled through multiple pages before this was even mentioned. First thing that came to mind for me. Keenum’s biggest hindrance to becoming a legit starting QB was his lack of arm talent, which is undoubtedly one of Rattler’s best traits.
