Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (24 Viewers)

This is where things go off the rails. Rattler does not have an elite arm. He can throw with good velocity in the intermediate game but his deep ball is terrible. He does not have this elite arm that people gush about.
While I have disagreed with you in the past , you are right on this one. SR has a good arm. Not elite. Allen has an elite arm. Herbert has an elite arm. And arm talent is SR's biggest asset. His touch is awful, his footwork is bad, his decision making is bad. A lot of the things he is bad at should have been remedied in college

Have you watched any vids of him at SC? Take a look on Youtube. It is really pretty obvious why he got little prep there.

I watched everything on him from OU to SC and he actually seemed to regress. You think he didn't have a QB coach at both his stops? People say he didn't have any help @ SC but he had Leggett to bail him out many times

Of course he had a QB coach. What I'm talking about is his lack of an OL, much like here (actually that should have prepared him for what happened with us :D )

Watch how much he had to run to get away from the opposing D. Somewhere on here is a vid of all 5 members of the OL getting knocked on their @$$ simultaneously. 5 guys laid out on the ground and Rattler running for his life. Funny as the keystone cops.

Yes, Leggett gave him a valid target to throw to and much (all?) of that was unscripted broken play throws. Those 2 guys developed some chemistry and Rattler could find him on the run.

He didn't regress here. He had superior D talent after him so his natural abilities couldn't show as well as they did in college. And here it was almost impossible for him to put into play what he was learning due to our horrible injury mess.

But his formative years should have been at SC and they weren't. Couldn't be. Too young at his earlier stops for him to physically learn as much as he needed. That's common. We most often see college QBs really begin to show out or mature in their Jr./Sr. seasons. That was when he was at SC.

Lack of a good OL has nothing to do with bad footwork, lack of touch and bad decisions. All of which he did not improve all during college

It's as simple as this: presuming they do the smart thing and get Carr off the books as soon as possible, you start Rattler. He either sinks and we get a Top 10 pick again, or he lights it up and we at least have a cheap bridge QB on the roster. Sorry, but I'm sick of picking in the low-teens to twenties, missing out on all the top talent, and just winding up in the same boat year after year with no tangible success to show for it.

Be careful what you ask for if they go down that road. I recall about 30 years of high draft picks. If you want to destroy a winning culture, that's a good way to do it.

No kidding. You don't intentionally get worse to get better when you're evaluated on "what have you done for me lately."

The Saints may have told Moore that he wouldn't be fired after the first season, but I highly doubt they told him he could intentionally make the team worse than it has to be.

Some people are starting with their desired outcome and working backwards to rationalize why their desired outcome is the best possible outcome. That's why it seems reasonable to them to make things worse for the team than it has to be. They want Rattler as the starter and Rattler has very little chance of starting over Carr, so Carr has to go to clear the way for Rattler to start.

By their own admission, Rattler starting matters to them more than winning games. They'd be okay with 0-17 as long as Rattler is the starter. They'd be furious if Carr starts and the team goes 0-17.

Not at all what I think anyone has said, but by all means, continue beating that straw man to death. If you got that from what I said, I'm assuming you're an angel investor for Tom Smykowski's Jump To Conclusions Mat. I'm honestly not sure what anyone thinks Carr brings to the table at this point. Not good enough to make the playoffs, but just good enough to have us picking after the top talent is off the board.

I suppose we should content ourselves with not making the playoffs and picking between 16 and 18 every year and having a $60 million cap hit for the privilege of doing so. We should clearly just keep doing what we're doing as it's worked out swimmingly since Payton decided he'd had enough.

...continue beating that straw man to death.
That statement is the actual strawman argument, because I didn't make a strawman argument and I only made the argument I just made one time. That's hardly "beating to death."

If you got that from what I said...
I see the problem here. You took what I said personally.

I wasn't talking about anything you said which is why I didn't quote and reply to you. I was referring to the general "let's tank" sentiment from a lot of people and responded to nakadish's sentiment about not wanting the Saints to do anything that they know gives them less of a chance of winning games in 2025.

We should clearly just keep doing what we're doing as it's worked out swimmingly since Payton decided he'd had enough.
The Saints aren't "keep doing what they're doing." They released Allen and let Kubiak and Woods leave. That's a major change right there and it won't end there.

The Saints roster management worked with Payton. It didn't work with Allen. Maybe it will work with Moore like it did with Payton, maybe even better.

Well said, it’s baffling why people have this loyalty to Rattler. He is at best a third string talent right now. He should not be in the conversation as a potential starter or viable number 2. It’s like let him play we don’t care if he loses. We all should want the team to get better and that starts by brining in better talent.
