Article Saints Execs love Spencer Rattler per ESPN’s Matt Miller (196 Viewers)

I don't get why people on here are so down on Rattler. He was a rookie playing behind possibly the worst OL in the league and had lost ALL of his WRs replaced by JAGs. His play still flashed some high points/talent regardless of his team weaknesses. No decent running game to take pressure off of his throws. No play action to keep the D off balance. Too many adversities to try to overcome as a Rookie.

I think who Rattler can be is still to be seen. It wouldn't surprise me if our new QB Whisperer/Coach can mold him into a more than decent starting QB.

He may also fail to make the transition to Pro QB. My point is that I don't think anyone here can tell that yet.

He has NFL starter talent and absolutely no give up in him. These are the 2 things I know for sure about Spencer. The 2 questions that he needs to answer are…. Can he learn and play within an offense….? And given some blocking and talent, can he make good decisions and distribute the ball?

We have not been able to get the answer to those up to this point. Because he was a rookie playing with backups.
Darn well said

You can tell that from 6 starts with a beat up offensive line, nobody WRs, virtually no running back support, and being coached by Dennis Allen? Wow.
I posted this in the Moore thread but we're overlooking the guy when he had no offensive players to even throw to let alone block for him..he didn't even have Taysom either. But we know he's not it...smh.

He’s got a nuclear weapon for an arm and has tremendous ball placement.

He misses some open throws but I attribute that to his youth.

His escapability is an asset though I wouldn’t exactly call him mobile.

I liken him to Russell Wilson , who knows if he can get to that level.
Interesting comparison with Wilson. Wilson is the ultimate team guy, the guy exudes team this team that, go Hawks. This type of player gets the best out of his team. I’m not sure if Rattler is the same in that aspect. Rattler is more of a pure thrower than Wilson.

Fair point.

You kinda changed my thought process.

I wouldn’t mind upgrading the position, though.

I just don’t see it. I think his ceiling is Case Keenum-ish.
Well that’s you.

I’ll take the opinions of those that see him every day, talk to him, see him in practice, know exactly what he’s supposed to be doing on plays, communication, etc.

This is what we have to get used to as Saints fans. We have to hope that the franchise hits on a late round QB or FA QB. We got lucky with Brees and now we only have to get lucky again. It may take 30yrs, but they’re bound to hit on someone between now and then. Hopefully it is Rattler so we don’t have to wait the same amount of time that we did between Archie Manning and Drew Brees.

I like Rattler's 2024. He came in as a rook to a messed up team and ended up getting starts, game reps, and made some plays. Sometimes the light was off, but sometimes the light was on and the pedigreed skillset was on display. Arm talent, mobility.

As for this thread, here's the lineage.

Dan Orlovsky reacting to Shrine Bowl and Syracuse QB Kyle McCord.

Matt Miller 15 minutes later in reply to Dan Orlovsky.

Bleacher Report mule writes an article.

The topic here should be Kyle McCord vs. Spencer Rattler.

Ideal situation for Saints:
1. Trade Carr to free us from his contract (understand he has no trade clause).
2. Free cap space and usher in the youth movement.
3. Cheat code (rookie contract QB) name Rattler as starter and build around him.

This helps fix the cap and advance the rebuild.
