To be clear, he was found not guilty of the charges in LA and the NFL did not take disciplinary action.

Anyway, I'm more curious as to why the Eagles let him go in 2023. Still might be a great hire since he did a great job in LA but I am curious what happened in Philly.

Eagles let Rath go after 2023 because they supposedly weren’t happy with the conditioning of Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter in the 2nd half of 2023 season. They blamed it on Rath instead of Davis and Carter’s inconsistent motor and lack of determination for staying in shape. But Jordan Davis actually produced more tackles in the 2nd half of 2023 than the 1st half total. He had 23 tackles in the last 8 games of 2023 vs 22 tackles in the first 9 games. Davis’ 2023 2nd half sacks decreased from the 1st half. Jalen Carter’s 2nd half 2023 sacks also declined from the 1st half. But Jalen Carter’s 2024 sacks declined from the 2023 season’s total overall while Rath wasn’t there in 2024. It doesn’t look like their pass rush decline was majority of Rath’s fault.

It looks like Rath was apart of Sirianni’s 2023 staff scapegoats in order for Sirianni to return in 2024 after a disappointing 2023 season by their standards. They apparently just needed someone to blame for their DTs taking plays off and not living up to their draft status. Easier to blame top 10 picks not producing on the sports medicine director’s conditioning techniques instead of holding those two players and their DC/DL coaches more accountable.

Agreed. Not to mention if Moore never actually overlapped with him in Philly, he must have at minimum heard some great things about him from people who did.

Regardless of how good Rath is or isn't, and I think he's likely at worst good at his job, it's nice to see the team making changes instead of doubling down and pretending that the rash of injuries was just bad luck. Some of it was, but there are things a team can do do lessen injuries, especially soft tissue injuries.

And there are unseen benefits to a team being in better shape and/or not worn out as the season goes along in the form of guys making fewer mental mistakes because they are tired and having the energy to make plays at the end of a game. All those things seemed to be lacking with Rhea.

And it's going to be particularly important to be in shape for guys on the Saints offense since Moore likes to play offense with tempo.

There was a bit of an overlap. Moore was there in February and Rath was let go in June. So he may have gotten to know him and his methodologies well enough in that short timeframe.
