Kyle Wilber hired as Saints assistant special teams coach.

I like it. Important to note and its a stark difference from what we're used to. DA put an emphasis on corners in the passing game. Terry Jospeh puts a bigger emphasis on safeties. But the guy knows how to coach up talent very well. If anything, its long overdue for him to make a leap to the NFL.

Smart hire. Passing offenses in college are evolving/changing and a new era of QBs are entering the NFL. You need new blood who know how to defend against these more mobile QBs and different style offenses that are migrating into the NFL.

On a few early searches, it looks like Texas runs a 2-4-5 defense, similar to what Fangio has been using heavily in recent years. It just further builds my expectation that we will head in that direction.

Looks like it. This is going to be a really important hire since the matchup zone/pattern matching coverage with a 2 high shell is going to be a fairly new concept for our secondary. I'm sure we have used similar things from time to time with DA, but we played a lot of man to man and often with single high. This is going to be a big change that is going to need to be taught well by the DB coach. Also, IIRC, one of the biggest issues that Staley had with the Charges was with the coverage so hopefully Joseph is ready for the step up to the NFL.

Lots of zone as well. Looks like they used cover-3 about 40 percent of the time and cover 4 about 25 percent of time. They also mix in some man, but only about 15 percent of the time. I’m really excited about this and can’t wait to see what type of players they bring in to fit the change in scheme.
