Saints Need an Offensive Weapon (1 Viewer)

Teams will still sell out against the run and shut it down.

Not to mention the difficulties that come with being a run first team with a bad defense. If we dont score we will find ourselves down quickly and the run game becomes useless.

Teams selling out against the run is exactly what your passing offense needs when you don’t have a good QB. Imagine how much more successful Carr and even Rattler would be passing against 8 in the box.

How about trading back in the first a few pics, grabbing Warren, then getting Scattebo in the next couple of rounds and trotting them both out on the field at the same time with Tyson Hill?
As bad as our RB/playmaker corps is right now, I'd take Jeanty 8th and Skattebo in the fourth. Or Tet at 8th if he's available and Skattebo in the fourth again. I put nothing past Taysom, but the reality is he's 35 and coming off a major injury. I think Cam can be that battering ram "Mike Alstott with actual agility and speed" runner that Taysom is when the ball is in his hands.

That’s fair, with Jeanty, a healthy oline, and a new guard, maybe we have the making of a great run blocking oline.
I would like to add that I do agree with needing WR but our QB situation has been having its own issues with health and experience over the last two years and we really cannot change that this year. Adding a top RB would help the QB position a lot.

Austin, MVS, Shaheed, Olave, & Moreau are all good #2 options on any given play.

Now the team needs a #1 option. WR or TE, doesn’t really matter, we just have to have a dude on 3rd downs.

I agree. Obviously, we keep Means as well. He's a nice development WR.

I like Austin to develop, dude is a bigger/sturdy WR who seems to do the dirty work as well. That's needed in this offense or any running scheme offense.

MVS is a one trick pony, a Big Z that can sometimes catch.

I see Shaheed as a weapon, but not an every down WR.

Olave, I'm curious how much bigger and stronger he gets. He's such a smooth WR on his route running and although he's fast, the route running is his bread and butter. If it's true that he wants to keep playing, he should put on about >15lbs of muscle across his entire frame. He should get into that 6'1" 210lbs range which would allow him to absorb the hits/impact to the ground better. Strength tf out of his neck to keep his head from whipping around. He'll sacrifice some speed, but his route running would remain and he'd be a more complete WR. If I was in his camp, that's exactly the advice I would give him, advise him to reinvent himself as a WR to allow his playing days to continue.

I see Moreau as a TE2/TE3. He's a complete TE, but he's not dynamic to be a TE1. Honestly, I would draft a playmaking TE for TE1, have Moreau as TE2, Holker as TE3 and draft/sign UDFA one of these big 6'5" -6'7" 270lbs monster blocking TEs like Nick Kallerup or Jake Clemons, both of these dudes have 80 PFF grades a run blocking for the 2024 season.

Like I keep harping on, Moreau is solidly entrenched as the new Josh Hill. Complete TE who can occasionally flash a clutch catch or insane block, but not a true TE1. He's better as a complementary piece in an offense.

Saints offense just need two things

1) stay healthy
2) a dominant TE

you fulfill that you are back in the top 10 offenses.

though I will say this 1000 times.

Draft

Will.. for Left Tackle, put Fuaga where he is suppose to be.. slide penning in at guard keep patrick for backup... and you will finally have a note worthy Oline.

AK is one of the highest paid RBs.

Reducing him to a bush/sproles role is just terrible asset management.
Sometimes you're going to have bulldoze your way through good defenses. McCoy may actually not be to blame for that Eagles' loss. It was a top ranked run defense. If Kamara can't do that, and the OL still will not be strong enough to open holes, we need someone who can. And if we can't get elite WRs, it's important.

I fully expect Taysom to come back as good as he was. He's already excited about getting ahead of schedule. Williams is good as gone. DA made Miller miss more time than he should have, He probably could play this week if really needed. AK's workload was a bit too much but you can't keep 5 RBs just because you think they are going to get hurt

You can't make any assumptions based on this yr with the incredible amount of injuries we have had, almost at any position
We have major injuries every year.

And which WRs in the league can be counted on to play 17 games? It's the nature of the position . Maybe ask the Rams if they should get rid of Puka or Kupp since they can't be counted on. I'm all for drafting big X this yr. I'd love to have McMillan or Harris or even Higgins
To be honest, we had D league receivers behind our top three. We did not even have a Doubs(Jayden Reed is not a true number one receiver to boot) or Davidson.

Also, I think defenses will view Shaheed as the number one receiver if we stay put and that means Olave will have to step up.

Not all weaknesses can be addressed...on any team. We need to look at what was really hurting us this year. Our defenses played well in first halfs, but when they're continually put back on the field they're going to get burned. Also, we got turnovers and did nothing with a lot of them. Carr, unlike Brees, is a QB who needs deep yardage playmakers due to his RedZone issues. Our offenses stalled continuously and that can be pointed to in the losses to LAR, Washington, TB, Philadelphia, and LAC. Even LV. Turn those into wins and we're 11-6. Maybe 9-8 due to the winning mentality of Philadelphia and LAR.

We did trade Lattimore so maybe we need a CB. This board hammered Adebo before he got hurt yet he was not really a liability. Thomas is not it. But other than that we need to keep our defense rested.
