Bleacher Report projects Saints to draft Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (late round prospect) (32 Viewers)

Klubnik is no better a prospect that Rattler at this point. Arguably will need more development that Rattler. I haven't seen him graded any higher than a late second/early third rounder. This is just fodder, no reason to think we are actually targeting him.

Nah, ML will reach for some unknown with tons of potential coming off of 3 surgeries.
Daveport was a major mistake by our FO.
Payton Turner has at least made it through the season for a change. My concern is that we let him leave in FA & he becomes the next T. Hedrickson or Z. Braun...
You can't say Penning any more. Moving him to RT has removed him from the NFL Bust category...
Fuaga... bonifide starter and future Pro-Bowl Player.

Agreed. Wasting a 1st on Klubnik would be awful

He's not a 1st rounder... I'm fine taking a QB anywhere between rounds 1 and 7 every year until we find one... Don't care where or how many... But he's not a 1st rounder... Late 2nd maybe...

Kyle McCord, Syracuse QB, 3rd round. Best QB in 25 draft in my opinion. My head would explode if we took Klubnik in the 1st.

To be clear, the article referenced in the article linked (lazy journalism) isn't saying the Saints should draft Klubnik in the first round. It's a Bleacher Report action plan for each team that they are updating weekly. Last week they had the Saints drafting LB Danny Stutsman, also not in the first round.

Here is this week's Saints plan:
  1. Biggest Weaknesses:
    1. Defensive Tackle
    2. Cornerback
    3. Quarterback
    4. Offensive Tackle
    5. Edge-Rusher

Move to Make Now: Give Jaylan Ford snaps
The Saints entered Week 16 with a less than one percent chance of making the playoffs, according to Next Gen Stats. So, it's time to evaluate the young players on the roster.
Demario Davis turns 36 next month and 2025 will be a contract year for him. Additionally, the organization is trending toward a rebuild this spring and could save $4 million of cap space by making him a post-June 1 cut, per Over The Cap.
Meanwhile, Ford has a future with the team but the rookie hadn't recorded a defensive snap heading into this weekend. With two just two games left, the front office should push for the fifth-round pick to get playing time.

2025 Free Agency: WR Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns
While New Orleans has Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed under contract as a good one-two punch out wide, the offense could use some depth at the position and someone who can operate out of the slot.
Moore has been a decently productive inside receiver during his four-year career, racking up nearly 200 catches for over 2,100 yards and nine touchdowns through Week 15 of this season. Also, He'll be just 25 years old in March to help add some youth to the roster.

2025 NFL Draft: QB Cade Klubnik, Clemson
It would be wise for Mickey Loomis to move on from Derek Carr this offseason seeing as the Saints are currently projected to begin the offseason $63.8 million over the cap, per OTC, and making Carr a post-June 1 cut would save $30 million. Also, he is about to be 34 in the spring.
The problem is the Saints likely won't be in the range of drafting one of the top quarterbacks in this year's class without trading up and the QB3 discussion is up for debate. The Clemson product could make a case for the latter and at least bring competition to the position group with Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler.
"As a passer, he possesses a good arm to make high-end throws from the pocket and on the move," the Tiger's scouting report says. "Klubnik delivers middle-of-the-field passes with good velocity and zip. In the short and intermediate portions of the field, Klubnik can drive passes into tight windows.
"His ability to make throws when flushed out of the pocket has been great. Klubnik uses his athleticism to turn nothing into something and help pull the offense out of a hole."
(Previous Week's Selections: Put Derek Carr on IR, LT Dan Moore Jr., LB Danny Stutsman)

^^This.

Someone in the same talent cloud as Klubnik shouldn't be touched with a 10-foot pole before the fifth round, if that. The million-dollar question for me concerns that position and the next head coach -- who will coach up Spencer Rattler? He has a higher ceiling than Haener but they'll waste him if no one coaches him up.

Older fans like me certainly remember Dave Wilson in the '80s? He was a big guy about 6-5 who once held the NCAA record for most passing yards in a game. Bum took him in the supplemental draft in '81. He broke his leg in the preseason the following year, which led us down the path of having a very physically-old Kenny Stabler for a few years. Wilson was built like Big Ben but never had the coaching-up to become anything more than a mildly serviceable backup to Hebert.

We aren't going to be able to draft our way out of the mess we are in..
so I figured I would post this here.

J. Johnson at # 37 will surprise a lot of people who complain about our TE group.

Juwan is a guy (along with MVS) I'd love to keep under an otherwise new regime.....but the dynamics of player movement make it unlikely. Johnson has some serious untapped potential as an "F" (the newfangled term for a hybrid TE/WR). He's had some injuries, though, and of course some tepid-at-best play at QB since he's been here.
