Saints request to interview Kliff Kingsbury [Jan. 16: Kingsbury plans to wait to take interviews until after the Commanders’ playoff run] (5 Viewers)

Hire him and trade for Hendon Hooker and run the Commander’s Jayden Daniel’s offense

After reading this, I have trouble thinking Kingsbury would give up what he has in JD5 for our conundrum at the position....

Money talks. I get that he's in a good spot in Washington, but most guys, especially guys that were head coaches in college and the NFL, want a head coaching job both for the control and the money. Maybe he pulls a Ben Johnson and stays another year, but it's a risk to take given that it's possible Washington could regress next year.

Also, Rattler, in as much as he is the TEMU Mahomes, is likely a good fit for Kingsbury's offense.

Agreed on Rattler being a cheaper version (seemingly) and the main draw at the position right now for any prospective head coach. Amazon a bit more than TEMU, hopefully, though :giggle:

Florio just posted it as well and I agree with him 100000000% every coach in the playoffs should be required to do that. It would annoy me to no end if your preparing for a game and an employee had to miss time in that crucial moment to go take an interview with another potential employer.

I get it you have to do it or you will miss out but if the rule was the same across the board you wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.

This is why the draft should be pushed back more as well. Just make a coach hiring season that runs for 2 weeks after the Super Bowl. This would force teams to go after GM’s first and no coach would have to choose between doing the right thing and focusing on the moment at hand or taking the interview to give themselves a better opportunity.

The current rules are stupid.

I mentioned it in another thread, but Kingsbury has no reason to rush. He is still earning HC money through 2026 from that contract extension he signed with Arizona before he was fired.

Smart. Get that experience under Quinn who has learned and is building a culture there. He's also getting to pad his resume by working with JD5. He should look for an opportunity in 2026 when there are better QB options coming out in the draft that he can link up with.
