Thanks Kliff for letting us know you're a coward ahead of time, you could've wasted three more years. I dont mean this harshly, im being honest. Id rather know now that an applicant is terrified of a challenge than to waste our time. (i know theres possibly financial reasons he stayed, but we know the real reason, and thats fine) Sean Payton accepted this job even after missing the GB job (to Mike Mccarthy). There was barely even a city and the dome was heavily damaged among many other issues when he signed up.

People are allowed to turn jobs down.

This honestly makes perfect sense for him. He's in a really good spot right now in Washington. I'm sure he'll get more opportunities in the future but staying seems like the wisest decision.

This is good news. Just like Dennis Allen with the Raiders, Kingsbury had already shown he’s not a good head coach. Arizona had 1 good year out of 4 and it turned into a bit of a circus which is why they parted ways. As bad as Dennis Allen? No. But not much better either.

I disagree. Kingsbury is a very good coach. He took a horrible Arizona team and got them better every year except his last one that Kyler Murray missed a bunch of games. Murray had his best years with Kingsbury despite the fact that they didn't get along well. He did that coming straight from being a college coach and they have been objectively worse since he was fired. I can understand an argument that he should have become and NFL coordinator or something before being an NFL head coach, but he did WAY more with his first shot at being an HC than DA did with his and still has a more wins and higher win% than DA too.

I'm not knocking the Saints because Kliff pulled out. I understand the reasons he might decide to make that statement, one being that he wasn't likely to get the job anyway.

That said, this process seems more like a game of musical chairs more so than a decision making process. The candidates are publicly removing themselves (for whatever reasons, good, bad or indifferent) which gives the feeling of it being a game of attrition rather than selection. This is why some fans aren't exactly happy with the process. Maybe when you are the last team to hire in a cycle, this is normal.

As a side note, I liked Kliff as a candidate. I believe he'll do a much better job in his next opportunity to be a HC provided he has the support and resources.

If I'm in his shoes, I'd think that I'm third in the pecking order. This way he doesn't get turned down for someone else. This is the last open spot. And he has a great gig in Washington.
