What are the IR rules this year? ...do they have to be on the 53 before going to IR?

My understanding is that two players can be placed on IR designated to return before the final 53. Anyone else placed on IR would be out for the season.

The other eight (?) spots designated for return would have to be on the active roster.

Patrick is up for trade, and will be released if no offers. This is worth keeping an eye on. As multiple teams are reported to be doing.
