Saints sign WR Brandin Cooks to a 2-year, $13 million deal (30 Viewers)

Hella interesting, because you now have 3 similar sized guys w/ similar traits and weaknesses.

Whose odd man out?
This will remind me of the old time redskins of the early 80s. Small speedy receivers.

They were complementing a very strong, power run game.

On the whole cooking theme, wasn't it some comments by Cooks during the 2016 about not "eating" enough when it came to seeing the ball? It was presumed this led to him being trade bait since Michael Thomas was quickly becoming the WR1? He had 78 catches for 1,173 yards in 2016, for background's sake.

Looking back at home Cooks career has went and how MT's career, it looks like MT probably wanted him gone.

The WRs in 2023 started to gel when MT left the team.

It doesn't look like he was a good teammate or mentor for the young WRs.

“Closed mouths don’t get fed!” 😂

That offense is gone and the main reason Cooks left the first time, he did not want to be relegated to a deep threat, he was a pretty good route runner coming into the league from Oklahoma State and its what has kept him in the league, not just his speed.

Oregon St.

Yeah, his gauntlet was sick.

Good comp.

Makes me think that Moore really is going to build around what we have on offense first (which includes some small-ish speedy WRs coming off injuries who need some insurance).

Do that instead of forcing a big bodied WR in FA or the draft.

Yeah. Having different role playing WRs may not be as important to Moore as it seems to be among us.

They very well may have just gone down their list of the best route running receivers and Cooks was the next man up.

The idea that you need a fast guy, a big possession guy, etc., is ideal in theory but may not be all that important in the grand scheme of things. Having three fast guys has its own set of perks…kind of like the ol’ Greatest Show on Turf back in the day.

This is an interesting signing for sure. It gives us 3 WRs who occupy the same/similar space. Shaheed is more of a weapon and has return value, so he's probably staying. However, having Pettis and Velus Jones Jr on the roster provides other KR/PR options.

We still need a Big X.

I think Olave might be the odd man out.

The other option is we keep all 3, for injury insurance since Olave and Shaheed both get banged up every year.

This offseason has been exciting for sure.

Seems a bit steep for a dude 31 year old who only caught 259 yards last year.

I like the addition on the field, though. Maybe he gets back to 2023 form. We need WRs and I think the big guy is found in the draft.
paying for the veteran leadership in the WR room as much as we're playing for future production.

Buffalo tried the all small WR route, but last year they went away from that and added size. They went in the the AFC Championship Game.
