Saints signed Taco Charlton (2 Viewers)

Wait this isn’t still April fools? Or is it?

Dude!… Tacoes was the JOKE ANSWER!

Now the Saints actually got this guy!!!

Why…? Why in the world would the Saints brain trust think this defense needs another (less talented) Granderson???

If it’s a camp body, then OK…
…but still… why?

Why him, and why now?
I heard that they signed Taco just to tick off @Saint Lattimore. :teach:

Is this the end of the "Taco joke" if not, it will be a bit confusing.

Could of been me, Go Blue!!!

They're kicking the tires on him because he has those measurements the Saints like 6'5 270lbs.

Haha yes...I am pretty sure it was indeed you actually. Fun times.

He did have that one 5 sacks season in Miami, so clearly he has SOMETHING in him, but my concerns then are the same as they are today - his slender frame and subpar speed/burst just aren't a winning combination at the NFL level.

It's amazing how well this skills test translates to that particular position, but when it comes to pass rushers, the 40-yard dash is one of the best indicators of success. Like every position, there are anomalies that succeed despite a bad 40-time, but more times than not, 6-6 270 pound pass rushers running 4.92 are going to struggle at the next level.

If that combo exists in a player, then I personally need to see insane college production, as in at least a pair of 16+ sacks seasons against superior competition, along with a vast array of unique pass rush moves to POTENTIALLY offset the measurable attribute downgrade, otherwise, it's a no for me, especially if you're talking about a potential first round pick. Nothing stuck out for me with Charlton with his production and what I would call "sack quality," as hardly any of them were the result of anything special shown on the play - many were coverage sacks, beating wildly inferior tackles after a fight that went too long for my liking, etc.

Easy for me to say in hindsight, I know, but I thought he got way over-drafted, even at 28.

Pass rushing is more than being fast. There is quickness and upper body skills as well. It is hard to judge speed, quickness and technique in college relative to the pros. Anyone can look like a "beast" college, but turn out to be just an ordinary player in the pros.

I remember when a lot of people wanted us to draft him in the first round. Average to mediocre career. Back up, fill in for often injured DEs

That whole check a box to fill a need philosophy. Rears its head every year.

Well that makes sense considering your current opinions on drafting a QB in a weak QB draft. Makes a lot of sense indeed.

Filling out the 90 man roster. Added a vet who even if he makes the team would barely show up on the salary cap. Chances are, he will either be sitting on his couch at home or on some other team come september.

Still... adding him and Evans on the same day as the super pick trade. Adding more defensive players to the roster while our offense still getting zero attention. We'll, we knew DA would be a defense first kind of coach. Turns out he may be a defense only coach.

And there is a small chance that signing Taco was a direct stab at Saintsreport. Feels like it could be anyway.
