Saints to interview Giants OC Mike Kafka [Interview scheduled for Thursday January 9th] (2 Viewers)

Just remember that we always do thorough by-book coach searches; we did it with the deer, Pete, and Kubiak. I still expect Mick to go with someone who will maintain his status quo directives.

No clue about this guy but we really need to make sure we get someone that can develop a QB. We have been spoiled with Brees and I don’t think we have anyone that can take a young QB under their wing and make the light bulb turn on for them. It’s why I’m not opposed to a Gruden or Kingsburry. Didn’t Gruden coach Super Bowl caliber teams with Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson?

Not a name to get all excited but keep in mind Sean Payton wasn't on our wanted list when he got hired.
Kafka has some things in common with where Sean Payton was in 2006.

Payton had only coached one Pro Bowl QB before Brees, Tony Romo. BUT Payton squeezed every drop of juice out of guys like Kerry Collins and Quincy Carter (and then later with Teddy Bridgewater).

Kafka, similarly, has only coached one Pro Bowl QB, Patrick Mahomes. But Kafka squeezed every drop out of guys like Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor, Tommy DeVito, and Drew Lock. Seriously, look at the jump Jones made in 2022 when Kafka came aboard -- I bet a lot of people don't remember that the Giants won a road playoff game that season:

Kafka was still the Giants' OC in 2023. Jones battled through a neck injury in 2023 that sapped his arm strength and cost him three starts. Then he went on IR with a knee in November. Tyrod Taylor and Tommy Devito split the rest of the starts and did better than they had any right to expect (both with identical QBRs of 89 and a combined 13-6 TD-INT ratio).

If this is true, We lack ambition. We are supposed to be swinging for the fences. Go after the best available. Don't set the bar so low.
Don't react to whether a name is big or well-known. Dig into a guy's background and see if he's lifted up guys, and not just ridden the coat-tails of stars.

You folks don't realize the potential value of having the NFL's marketing rights in the Czech Republic.

I know nothing about Kafka (the coach, and only a little more about the writer). He may be a heck of an offensive coach, but does he have the traits of a successful head coach in the NFL? I have no idea. But if we do hire him, the jokes will flow for as long as he is the coach and the team struggles.

Note no talk of interviews with Vrabel or Ben Johnson. We may end up getting a good coach, but the national perception is that the Saints job is near the bottom of the list in attractiveness.

If there’s one thing about all of this that I’m 100% certain of, it’s that Loomis gets this wrong!

Get rid of Loomis and I might have a glimmer of hope
