Schaudenfraude From Recent Super Bowl (11 Viewers)

Vic Fangio's defensive line dominated the game. It was over at 17-0. Brandon Staley is a disciple of Fangio, so he would probably be a good DC to pair with Kellen.

Schadenfreude is the joy of harming others. For example, if someone acts cocky and then has a mishap and you can't help but smile. So you think to yourself: "He deserved it, the right person was affected"... that is the definition of schadenfreude.

So in this case you watched KC getting all the advances on 50/50 decisions by refs, to win close games all season and suddenly in Super Bowl there is one opponent, dont fool around and gave them a 31:0 in first half you feel joy to see KC fall apart suddenly. So the OPs wording was right.

It doesn't have to be personal harm. It also includes a sense of joy from someone's misfortune. The Falcons collapsing in a Superbowl or the Chiefs finally not getting bailed out by the referees, isn't something that harmed either team as much as their luck running out. Schadenfreude is applicable here despite no one being actually harmed by the events taking place.

right ! i just wrote an example to explain better. English is not my native language but german is.
to keep it short: You just feel joy, to see someone or something falls apart.

What about the 28-3 game?
I was traveling xcountry during that game. I had great hate for both teams & saw no win, I could be ok with. I got into a hotel lobby in the 4th Q & was so disgusted(@the score) I took my time getting the kids into the room. I turned on the tv at the 1st NE score & laughed for the next few minutes, so hard I almost puked! I still hate that brady got another ring, but the rest of my life I can look @ 28-3 & feel unmitigated joy!

I haven't enjoyed a Super Bowl this much since our own in the 2009 season. Mainly because, I was so sick and tired of the Chiefs getting ALL of the calls in high leverage moments, and all of the breaks. They reminded me of the 80's 49ers who were good enough on their own that they didn't need help from the officials but got it anyway. Remember when they were playing us and Jerry Rice spiked the ball at the 3-5 yard line, ran into the endzone with this hands up like he'd scored a TD, the ref looked at the ball exactly where he spiked it, looked at Rice and raised his hands as if it was a TD anyway? And since there was no instant replay, the call stood.

That's what it was like watching the Chiefs for 3 years. In many ways, they are the anti-Saints or Bizzaro Saints. Every time they had a 3rd or 4th down that was stopped, there'd magically be a DPI or defensive holding call extending the drive where they would invariably score (ESPECIALLY LATE IN THE GAME), and conversely, every time their opponent got a huge offensive gain, there'd miraculously be an offensive holding or offensive pass interference call. And add to that, that the Chiefs almost NEVER got called for offensive holding, it was frustrating.

And listening to the pundits STILL give Jalen Hurts back-handed compliments, while all he does is win and win while playing well. I have enjoyed it. The absolute obliteration was thoroughly enjoyable. I only wished they didn't allow the garbage-time stats making it look like Mahomes actually played a semi-decent game.

I know that I can't be the only one.
You didn't enjoy 28-3 as much? It felt like we won a Lombardi that day for me.

It wasn't THAT surprising to me that eventually the Chiefs would get blown out like that. They played close games all year and had a thing or two go their way in each game. You can say favorable calls, no doubt they benefited from questionable calls but its not like they were some juggernaut's that were blowing teams out.

The Eagles probably had the only defense in the league to do what they did though. Once Mahomes couldn't step up in the pocket, it was over.
That's why I believe having a record amount of 4th quarter comebacks in a season isn't a good thing. The previous record was the Colts in 2009. After we spotted them 10 points, we dominated them 31-7. Give me a team that doesn't need to come back all the time in order to win, but is also capable of it if need be.

I really thought they should of lost all 3 Superbowl they had won. Crucial bonehead plays from their opponents allow them to stay in the game.
Jalen Hurts freak fumble-turned-defensive-TD was part of what turned the tide of the bowl 2 years ago. And then the magic holding call that wasn't on James Bradberry that basically allowed the Chiefs to wind the clock down and kick the winning FG as time pretty much expired.

Eagles should have blown them out of that game too but KC caught the magic lucky breaks they so often do.
