Sci Fi Books (3 Viewers)

Science Fiction tends to become Science Fact over time. You should try more of Bradbury's stuff, he was very good at the short story as well as the novel....A Sound of Thunder (the movie was horrible), The Martian Chronicles (there should be an updated movie of this, the original was made for TV), Fahrenheit 451 (I've never watched any of the film adaptations)....those are just a few examples.

"The Veldt" is another short story of his I really like.

Actually, I like a lot of Bradbury's stuff. Not sure why I included him earlier. He's definetly a major step above Asmiov and Clarke for me.

It may not be as dated as you think......things seem like they circle around when you don't learn the lesson correctly.

No doubt that books are still under threat, maybe more now than they were 10 to 20 years ago. I just meant that the vision of "the future" is a bit dated. The importance of the message of the book is unfortunately not dated at all.

I enjoy the radio adaptions of his stories… The Veldt, There comes a soft rain, etc.

I’ve read the entire Hyperion, Dune, and Foundation series. All are outstanding IMO. Dune’s weakest book is Messiah, but it rebounds quite well with Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune.

Hyperion is just flat out fantastic from beginning to end. The same goes for the Foundation series EXCEPT the prequel books. I found them a bit less entertaining.

I’ve also read Hail Mary. It was simply a fun read. Love it all. Can’t wait to see the movie.

I have the Three Body Problem book but I haven’t cracked it yet. I want to read it before seeing the series.

And of course there is the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Always a great series. I always recommend it to folks that are new to reading SciFi.

The Hitchhikers Guide series is excellent.

3 Body Problem is okay, the premise is good enough, the names could be Smith, Jones, Smythe and Jules. I keep having to go back to the legend to find out who is who again with the Chinese names. I still have book 2 & 3 to read inorder to finish the series. Any thoughts on the tv show vs books? No spoilers just a general thought.

Station 11 is fantastic. Slow to get in to, but well worth the effort. Stellar! Even the tv show is not too bad.

Listening to the passage by Justin Cronin now about 2/3 of the way through it

I’m overall enjoying it but no where near as much as its reputation suggested

I’ll admit I really liked Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard (or half of it at least)

Read it in high school and read it without knowing who Hubbard, or what, Scientology or Dianetics was

Movie was atrocious though
