Sean Payton’s return to New Orleans - Denver Post (1 Viewer)

Loyalty is earned. DA hasn't earned his checks much less loyalty
Here is the thing about loyalty: it is there in good times and bad times., not just the good. Would you have been devoted to Payton if he produced the same results as Allen? Payton had his share of 7-9 seasons (not many, but still). I am willing to bet that, if Payton had the exact same results as Allen, you'll be calling for his head.

And loyalty to whom? Loyal to the organization? Or do you feel coach had to be loyal to you and stay, until you no longer wanted him?

If Dennis Allen decides to leave his position with the Saints at the end of the season, are you going to be mad because he quit and wasn't loyal to the team, or joyfully dance in the streets?

What if Dennis Allen showed loyalty to the team, came out and sad "I am here to finish what we started"?

Then saintsreport will go chaotic like never before!

Same folks on here dogging out players wanting to renegotiate their contracts are the same ones fine with Payton quitting after signing a contract.

Not dogging anyone, the NFL is a business.....

The notion that he quit on the Saints/NOLA, is just childish IMO.....

This is just you projecting, I stated my reasonings and I believe that they're sound based off of team decisions not personal feelings. I never once said I was "betrayed" or "slighted", I said he quit on the team that he committed to lead 2 years prior. I don't personally care about any entertainer, only that I am entertained and that their efforts to entertain me doesn't cause them bodily harm.
It's not projecting, just me using a colorful allegory to make me sound authoritative :hihi:

As for the contract Payton signed: a contract is not a bill of sale. Payton didn't sell himself to the Saints for 5 years in 2019. A contract is an agreement between parties that defines conditions enforceable under the law, and in the case of employment contracts, they usually include conditions for terminating employment, whether voluntary or involuntary. And even then, contracts are not written in stone, they can be renegotiated.

I am 110% sure Payton's contract had clauses for the termination at any time of Payton's employment by the F.O. without Payton getting a single dime.

I also don't want to be sold on fake goods either and that is what happened when we were sold that 2019 contract extension. That was more of a "non-compete" clause than a commitment to the team.
Without that contract, we wouldn't have gotten any compensation when Payton decided to walk.

But that thought that he would only stay on one team forever is a myth.
Most Super Bowl coaches leave for another team.
Lombardi, Stram, Johnson, Parcells, Shanahan, Holmgren, Pederson, Ditka.
It's not a myth. Chuck Noll remained with the Steelers as their Head Coach.

:gosaints:

Under his leadership:

-we rebuilt the team after Katrina
-established a culture unlike we’d ever seen
-won 1 SB
-robbed of another by the no-call
-likely make another if Cook doesn’t fumble
-navigates through two COVID seasons

He burned out on this particular situation after all of that. Saying he “quit,” in the bare sense of the term, ignores a ton of context.

Got to thinking, since I’m all about some history…

Even the great Vince Lombardi left the team with which he’ll always be associated to coach the Washington Redskins the very next season after he “retired,” with the quote marks, just as Payton did.

As fans even older than me know, he turned the Redskins around in just one season, but had to step away due to cancer, which took his life following the next season.

To address one previous post, Mora quitting and Payton quitting were two totally different kinds of quits. Payton realized he couldn’t win anymore without an elite QB in a league that now caters to QB’s via the rule book. And he delivered a ring. Mora’s standing with the fans as a coach and person has definitely improved through the passage of time — but those teams didn’t ever win a playoff game.

Even Underhill quit the Saints and went to cover the Patriots for a year.
Poor Nick picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue.

Seriously though, Nicks only hope to make money this year is to play up every emotion based story he can find.

Unless there’s a dramatic turnaround, fan interest is going to collapse here soon, except for us die hards.

The Saints have really no competition in pro sports.
You got the Pelicans but Louisiana is a football state.
The closest teams are in Atlanta and Dallas.

It’s true that there’s not another pro franchise nearby, but a high percentage of fair weather fans (i.e. most fans) tune out games and media coverage when the team sucks and appears to not have the ingredients needed to turn it around.
