Apparently, Pakistani intelligence (ISI) has maintained contact with Mullah Omar (remember him?), and Omar is supposedly willing to talk with the the USA. Obviously, we will not withdraw troops FIRST (considered to be a softer demand by the Taliban). Have we reached that point of stalemate in which negotiations are the only way out? Our military just started an offensive, so we have yet to see in which direction that will take us. Plus, many remember how untrustworthy the Pakistani Taliban were in negotiations with the Pakistani government. What do you guys think?

Sure, Why not? However the negotiations should lead to nothing less than the Taliban's full capitulation. No buyouts i.e. "the surge" in Iraq, just their complete willingness to cease and desist. If they are willing to lay down their arms and join the rest of the civillized world, we would welcome them. I know that will never happen with them, so i'll go with option (d) on the pole: tacoes!

Name any war in the 19th - 21st century that DIDN'T end with the negotiation process

This one went real well.

Also Hitler committed suicide as allied forces were closing in so the Nazi component(also who started it) of WWII was defeated through force, Japan also conceded after two devastating atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I would hardly call that a negotiation process on either account.

This was photoshopped, too

Intellectually dishonest much?

You do know the difference between conceding and negotiations right?

What negotiations? A reiteration of the original deal, circa 2001? "Hand over Bin Laden or we'll come in after him." I'm ok with that.

I really don't give a flying fart if the Afghans love freedom or not. Hand over Osama and you can go right back to your nice, comfy stone age.

So, you're implying that the allies never engaged the Nazis in diplomacy (a better deal than continued fighting) when Berlin was invaded by the Russians and Americans?
what was the reason that the Nazis didn't continue to fight? Are we anywhere close to that precipice in Afghanistan? If you intended to play the attrition game with the Taliban (not even Al Qaeda), pack a lunch or two

The Nazis? No. Neville Chamberlain capitulated to Hitler then was shown how naive he was when Hitler did the exact opposite of what he agreed to in the Munich Agreement.

History does and will repeat itself if we are naive again.

Thing is, history has contradicting lessons regarding this situation.

Appeasement or long, drawn-out bloodletting USSR style?

The mideast is a tar baby we're better off just leaving the hell alone.

I agree about the mideast... It's time for us to let them to their own devices.

And yes Chamberlain was all about appeasement. The Munich Agreement allowed for Hitler to continue annexing Czechoslovakia.

What kind of agreement allows another country to continue invading and taking over another sovereign country?

Think bin Laden might be dead already? Unless our only goal was to rid the middle east of all kinds of terrorist organizations, seems the stuff will be growing out of every region in the world. I agree we leave them to their own devices. Thing is, we are still going to want their oil and they are still going to want to attack us on our homeland. I see no end to this.
Life is growing scary, but I have a feeling that people in the past have gone through their own generational hysteria.
