Black bears can climb. Grizzlies can only if the limbs are big enough to support their weight. They can't scurry upPeople underestimate bears, which I suppose is the gist of the thread.
They can outrun you. Easily. In-line/zig-zag, doesn't matter. You're not outrunning it.
They can climb faster than they can run. So unless you can also climb faster than you can run (spoiler: you can't) then that's strike two.
They can throw them paws faster than your brain can process.
They have the bite strength 3-4x stronger than a pit bull.
Unarmed, you don't have an attack that can phase one. Poke its eye? You just lost that hand. Kick it in the junk? Now it's angry.
So, yeah, just watching one thinking you're safe behind a 3 foot gate is insanity.
I believe it's the former. That bear has been fed before imo. Those men were extremely lucky. It could have easily broken the back of that man who opened the gate. That bear has been fed by humans, stupid humans, it's very unusual for a bear to approach a group of folks like that....either that or it was a trained bear and this was all staged (which is what I"m hoping)....
A couple and their pet dog have been killed in a grizzly bear attack in Canada’s Banff National Park.
The man and woman were hiking at around 8pm on Friday in the Red Deer River Valley, west of Ya Ha Tinda Ranch, when they encountered the bear, according to authorities.
The bear attacked the couple, who died from their injuries. Their pet dog also died in the attack.
Parks Canada said that it received an alert from a GPS device in the region, which is located three hours’ north of Banff town.
Harsh weather then initially hindered rescue teams from reaching the couple, according to Natalie Fay, from Park Canada’s Banff field unit.……

It's not the same, you'll also drown during the shark attack.getting eaten by a bear in the woods is the same as being eaten by a shark in the ocean.
now, if they were at Wal-Mart and attacked by a shark or bear in the parking lot, then that is a tragedy..
