Yes, Bear spray is pretty much pure capsicum oil. The same in pepper spray,but much stronger. The challenge
is obviously staying calm enough to get a shot to the face. If you can, they'll feel it and it won't be pleasant
for the bear.

Yup, the cannisters I got could spay 20-25 yards pretty accurately if not too much wind....but staying reasonably calm is key....no doubt

I just feel like there's a risk of blowback and then both you and the bear are down, clawing your own eyes. I guess it's a matter of who can recover first.

If you get hit, you aren't going anywhere because you are blind and it hurts like hell. The bear is going to take off, blind or not, it ain't staying around.

Yeah, I made the mistake of taking out my contact lenses after eating a habenero pepper a few years
back. I washed my hands afterward,but it didn't remove all of the pepper oil. Needless too say it hurt
like hell and my right eye was useless for about 45 minutes. I can't imagine the pain caused by a
direct hit from bear spray.

See below.....no method is ideal but the bear spray isn't going to further anger a charging bear, that very well could be bluff charging......hit a bear with a non lethal shot and may turn out way differently.....
