SNL's 40th Anniversary Special (4 Viewers)

That Californians sketch was brutal to watch. and it went on forever.

I thought that the best bits was the old clips.

This was the first time I ever thought that Miley Cyrus had any real vocal talent.

I did like the celebs doing SNL characters

I would have liked to see more of the older cast together.

Some skit ideas that merged characters from different eras.

I was most excited for Eddie Murphy, he's avoided SNL things in the past and he didn't do anything. That was disappointing.

I would have liked to have seen a skit with Garret Morris, Eddie, Chris Rock, Tim Meadows, Ellen Cleghorne, the Blacks of SNL and run with it.

Overall I liked it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. All three hours of it. I could nit-pick, but I'd rather just enjoy it for what it was - a truly historical night for comedy.

Comedian Norm Macdonald took to Twitter Wednesday evening to share a long but fascinating account about the behind-the-scenes drama that preceded “Saturday Night Live’s” 40th anniversary extravaganza.

Eddie Murphy, who made a brief cameo on the NBC special, was approached to impersonate Bill Cosby in “Celebrity Jeopardy,” a skit Macdonald wrote and originally created for the show, but Murphy turned down the offer the night before the telecast.

Kenan Thompson eventually played Cosby in the revived sketch, which also featured Will Ferrell (Alex Trebek), Macdonald (Burt Reynolds), Darrell Hammond (Sean Connery) and Kate McKinnon (Justin Bieber).

“Among many other things, this show was to be the return of Eddie Murphy,” Macdonald wrote................................

Well it sure didn't work out that way. I'm not surprised he wouldn't do Cosby, since over the past 25 years Murphy hasn't done anything bold, edgy, or funny.

Murphy has a brand to protect now, I'm not surprised he didn't do it either. Sad, really because at one time he was one of the funniest, edgy comics around

The 50 years of music SNL special is on at 7pm and I think that the 50th anniversary show is tonight as well.

I was just about to make a topic about this ^

The very first episode of SNL will receive a special broadcast, Saturday, February 15

Saturday Night Live — then titled NBC’s Saturday Night — originally premiered on October 11, 1975. Legendary comedian George Carlin was the episode's Host, and the Musical Guests were Billy Preston and Janis Ian.

The following night, Sunday, February 16, will be the live three-hour primetime event, SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

There was also a 4 part docu-series released back in January:
SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night

Kanye has been a trending topic on SR lately, LOL. Looks like SR is decidedly anti-Kanye...and for good reason, he's an arrogant butt. However, he's good at what he does. You don't get it, but there's a reason he was chosen to perform at this event and twice at the Grammys. He didn't "get" to perform. He's wanted to perform. Despite his ego, people that know music (and can obviously detach the person from the work) appreciate his music.

I get it though...there's a certain pop artist that rubs me the wrong way and as such, I don't appreciate his/her music.
we're all going to have to live with the legacy of our kanye takes

Theres multiple things going on:

The 4 part documentary, mentioned above (released in January)
50 years of SNL music (tonight)
The re-airing of the first episode (later tonight)
“SNL50: The Anniversary Special" which airs Sunday

Lol at least my takes are consistent.. this ‘memory’ just popped up for me this morning on a very exclusive social media app im a member of called “Facebook”……. Of course ten years ago this very day i was lamenting why they were doing the 40th special on a Sunday…………..
