SNL's 40th Anniversary Special (2 Viewers)

I was very disappointed to see Kanye West not only get to perform (I use that term loosely), but also get so much extra attention from Wayne's World to help feed his ego. Can't he just go away already?

Kanye has been a trending topic on SR lately, LOL. Looks like SR is decidedly anti-Kanye...and for good reason, he's an arrogant butt. However, he's good at what he does. You don't get it, but there's a reason he was chosen to perform at this event and twice at the Grammys. He didn't "get" to perform. He's wanted to perform. Despite his ego, people that know music (and can obviously detach the person from the work) appreciate his music.

I get it though...there's a certain pop artist that rubs me the wrong way and as such, I don't appreciate his/her music.

and thats what is sad. the "schtick" is getting old. We get it.

Focus on the music and lyrical content and be appreciated for the gift you were given, musically.

I too think he is a outstanding musician/lyricist. But enough of this "me vs world" role. If you want anonimity, seek it out, settle down and stop making music.

Instead, you blow up interviews, marry Kim K, continue to make headlines then take issue because headlines are written about you.

there is some psychological aspect to all of this that i dont know anything about.

Kanye is legitimately insane. I don't think he's capable of dropping the shtick.

He doesn't smile because people in old-timey pictures didn't smile, and he thinks that looks cool.

He designs Adidas athletic wear that looks like this:

You can't reason with that. He's just crazy. It's not gonna change.

Was Jim Belushi standing in for John on the blues brothers bit?

He has played "Zee Blues" and continues to do so in an updated Blues Brothers show.

I saw the first hour & the last half hour. No way was I missing the two hour season finale of CSI. (No, we don't have a DVR) I loved the opening monologue & the bits of classic sketches. I just wish some had been longer. I also loved the Jeopardy sketch. Sir Paul did sound quite rough. I liked how Paul Simon decided to age more naturally.

I distinctly remember watching the very first episode. It was definitely different - something between radical & puzzling but still hilarious for the most part. I was a faithful viewer for the the first 30 years. I very rarely watch it anymore. The first five years will always be my favorites. The cultural impact of the show has been huge.

Turrible. Kanye getting his own segment drove me to sleep, and I want my 2.5 hours back.

The whole thing looked forced, as if alumni participated only out of respect for Lorne Michaels.

Chase was an embarrassment; so was DeNiro, who couldn't even get through his own "personal story" without (stumbling through) cue cards.

Horrible, choppy editing of all montages made it difficult to follow. Darn. I was expecting more.

Didn't see it
I am amazed at its legacy - except for Madtv, it's probably the least funny (and most inconsistent) of the sketch comedy shows
Putting Monty Python in its own category you have SCTV, Kids in the Hall, Mr Show, Key & Peele, Ben Stiller, (in living color had the same consistency problem) et all that were much better written, better performed, more insightful and MUCH funnier than SNL
Even looking back at the original even the greatest of sketches is balanced by some real clunkers

The obvious difference is that the others were taped, but so?

I think snl was a zeitgeist phenomenon, and it had a brilliant counterculture cast that entrenched it into our consciousness and then it became the dominant culture

I'm not going to put Lorne Michaels into the Jerry Jones category, but he seems to be given WAY more credit than is due

I feel compelled to inform you that we agree again...

The lack of Blushi, Farley and Hartman made me not want to watch this and yes I know this show used to be can't miss, not its can't watch

For anyone that didn't catch the Jeopardy scene. IMO one of the funniest skits SNL has ever done.

My favorite political sketch on SNL - it got a look on the special Sunday night.
