Spencer Rattler broke the Saints record for most passing yards by a rookie (2 Viewers)

This stat says more about the sad state of the history of rookie QB’s in New Orleans than it does for Spencer Rattler. Although him being able to do it in six games definitely shows potential.
He does show potential, but has to clean up his pocket awareness problems. Not only does he not feel pressure, but he doesn't know how to correct or compensate for a leaky line.

Agreed and that’s a common shortcoming for young quarterbacks. Instincts have to be honed through experience. For the successful QBs, the game slows down and the mental processing becomes more natural. They quickly anticipate post-snap based on alignments and what they’ve gone up against and seen on film. His degree of improvement there will determine his level of success in the NFL.

What works in Rattler’s favor is his arm talent - as good or better than any QB in this draft. He’s not necessarily a dual threat QB but he’s athletic and can extend plays and also pick up yards on the ground. His work ethic appears to be high and listening to him, his football IQ is as well. He already shows poise in the face of challenges and navigates that line well between exuding confidence while being a humble team player.

If he can master the mental part of the game, he will be a good QB, but it’s a big unanswered question about him. His college career leaves room for doubt and explains his draft position.

How many games did Archie win that year?
He won 3 in 1971 and had 51 less passing attempts than Rattler. While Rattler did break it in 6 games compared to 10 for Manning, Spencer had 51 more attempts to add to it and also won 0 games.

Crazy that this OL that Spencer played behind was far better than the one Manning did. Says how terrible that OL was in 1971 lol

Also, I wanted Spencer to get a shot all last season so this isn’t at all a shot at him. I’d be completely fine with going with him as the starter this year.

Depending on what happens in 4 days this record has a chance to be broken in consecutive seasons.

It shows how much the Saints avoid starting rookie QB’s. They didn’t even take a chance on one rookie QB in the decades between Archie Manning and Drew Brees and the only reason Rattler got this much playing time is due to Derek Carr getting injured.

I am convinced that after Archie Manning they posted a sign in the front office that says “Never take a rookie QB high in the draft and don’t even ponder starting one at all” lol
The only time they had a chance to start a rookie QB for a long stretch in the past 40 years was from 96-98. But they didn't draft one other than Wuerful. He was terrible.

Brooks was inexperienced when he came over. In a way he was a rookie. Even though it wasn't his Rookie year when led the Saints a playoff victory.

Rattler played with backups and played within himself and the offense; he threw interceptions, but what QB wouldn't when trying to make a play in an offense devoid of playmakers?
Facts 💯. You send a rookie QB out there with WRs literally signed off the street as your top 4 are all gone injured. Your o line is decimated with injuries, your weapon in Taysom Hill is gone for the year also, and you have zero run game. Rattler did all he could with that which is pretty much nothing and kept a good attitude despite it. I’d like to see him with a healthy and revamped roster. He has the talent and ability. I think he could do really well for this team.

No offensive line
No targets
No Alvin
No Shaheed
No halftime adjustments from the coach

No training camp reps as the starter
No preseason reps as the starter
No regular season reps as a starter until he was starting with 3rd stringers

Against legitimate playoff teams …

Yeah his fault Allen stroked Carrs you know what and made Rattler the 3rd string guy to protect his ego.

You know what’s worst ? If Rattler gets 2s reps all season , he might have been able to do enough to save Allen’s job …
Well let us all thank goodness he didn’t.
Excited to see what he can do this season, if we don’t take a QB high.

This again. Some of you didn’t watch the games he started, or you are reading his high school max preps page.
You must be stuck watching his channel Prep days..bcas it clearly states he broke the NFL Saints Rookie record passing yards. Facts or facts. Get out your feelings.

Watched every game he played. I saw an NFL starting QB.
I mean technically speaking every QB who starts a game in the NFL is an “NFL Starting QB.”

Not sure what you do for a living. I am in sales and technically speaking have zero clue what it takes for a prospect to work out. I mean like everyone else on the planet I though Jamarcus Russel was going to set the league on fire.

I of course saw some good stuff that made me happy, and some bad stuff that made me unhappy.

I am going to trust our coach knows more about football than I do and make the right decision.
