Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline: “I’m told Saints are considering releasing Tyrann Mathieu” [Tyrann: “Slow news day....I am New Orleans!”] (20 Viewers)

I don't doubt that. But when it came to choosing a city to play football in, we weren't it until he was entering the backside of his career, and at a cost that I'm not sure matches his effort and ability. All I'm saying is it's easy (and financially beneficial) to make that claim now.
TM had some issues that he dealt with, before he even got drafted. The best thing for that young man was to get out of the state. His career and quality way of life, while trying to be the best version of himself, was worth way more to him, than proving to anyone that he is/was “New Orleans”. I know exactly what TM is saying bc I did the same thing. Probably for the same reasons. It was the absolute best move for me, so I will 100% back him up on this. Doesn’t mean that we still can’t take pride in where we are from.

I'm an LSU fan and I like Tyrann, but this comment doesn't land right for me. Was he New Orleans after the Cardinals released him? How about before he signed with KC? It's easy to be New Orleans now. I'm not sure he would get paid well to give a less than full effort elsewhere at this point of his career.
I think he's saying there is no validity to the report, which does not mean he wont be released or restructured, but the reporter has no insight whatsoever on the state of the franchise.

If we release him, we lose money. A June 1st cut doesn't help because we have to be cap compliant before then anyway.

It makes no sense to release him.

Yeah, the more I think about this, I’m thinking it’s just misplaced speculation.

You see it all over social media right now and even every once in awhile from otherwise credible reporters types…people thinking we should release this player and that player, with no clue whatsoever about the financial/cap implications of the moves.

There are legitimate people out there that think we need to just release everyone and start over but have no clue that that’s not even possible.

Not sure how valid this report is, it sounds like unless they think he is a complete waste of a roster spot it doesn't make sense to cut him....BUT

I'm an LSU fan and I've always liked HB, reality is he is a shell of his former playing self....

Safety is paper thin as it is. Harris is 29 and Gray is a ST only. Howden is still waiting for the light bulb to come on. Losing HB would really hurt more in the short term. Need to draft his replacement this season and find another Safety in the FA bargain bin.

Yes, you can argue he's not close in performance value for his salary, give or take some nice plays each year, but this...
is...
a...
BUSINESS DECISION.
If it happens.

Keeping Carr in the cap (even with potential restructure) and you gotta pay for it in other ways.

So you chop off Badger, take his cap space, and then ring it up....

Dead money tally goes to $60M.

Dead Money (per OTC)

NameCap Number
Marshon Lattimore$31,661,837
Michael Thomas$9,187,177
Jameis Winston$7,361,000
TOTAL$48,432,346

I think my numbers are right, but if they are not, we know alot of people here who can correct or amend it.

I'd be in favor of cutting him. Great guy, generational LSU player even to non-LSU fans, but I'll take the benefit of getting younger and paying the dead cap bill sooner than later.
Michael Thomas. The gift that keeps on giving. Interesting that no one signed him this year. Got paid but didn't play much after he got that check.
