Do it and eat the damage--Considering a release? I’m sure they’ve considered releasing many players. However, his cap number is $11.3M and dead money is $12.3M. They will accelerate about $1M if he is released. Doesn’t appear to be worth it. I think he plays it out this year.
I think if the Saints feel certain he will be replaced in the starting line up and that he will react in a way detrimental to team unity, then I think cutting him is the best course of action. Team unity is more important to me than cap savings. Not all. I'm a LSU fan and Mathieu can go. It doesn't matter what the cap hit is, I'd rather roll with a rookie than have that lack of effort, business decision guy on the roster going forward. Yes, he's good in the community, but giving up on plays isn't a good look when we are trying to change the culture.
Same same, it’s a good draft for safety depth imo as well.Kind of sounds like an agent trying to gage his player's value after the team asked him to take a pay cut.
I'd hate to see him go because he's a great guy in the community, but we do need to upgrade and get younger at Safety.
The only thing I can think of is that this would fall under the realm of a “football decision.”
He’s coasted a bit on film. I could see the new staff not caring much for him.
Name | Cap Number |

Marshon Lattimore | $31,661,837 |
Michael Thomas | $9,187,177 |
Jameis Winston | $7,361,000 |

LSU fan here and I absolutely agree with you.Not all. I'm a LSU fan and Mathieu can go. He has always repped New Orleans. It’s where he’s from. He takes great pride in that.I'm an LSU fan and I like Tyrann, but this comment doesn't land right for me. Was he New Orleans after the Cardinals released him? How about before he signed with KC? It's easy to be New Orleans now. I'm not sure he would get paid well to give a less than full effort elsewhere at this point of his career.
I don't doubt that. But when it came to choosing a city to play football in, we weren't it until he was entering the backside of his career, and at a cost that I'm not sure matches his effort and ability. All I'm saying is it's easy (and financially beneficial) to make that claim now.He has always repped New Orleans. It’s where he’s from. He takes great pride in that.
He has also said before that the road he was on the best thing for him was to get away from New Orleans for awhileI don't doubt that.
