That's what a Saints rep said at a talk that I attended (that they try to minimize the painted surface because of it being more slippery).
while I see the thought... I can't buy that on the premis of the Cowboys, Jets/Giants, Bengals, etc don't seem to have an issue w/ that... I'm of the belief that that was just a story to give but the big issue was the cost of going back & forth w/ the paint job due to Tulane

heck... the 49ers and Ravens didn't seem to have any issue w/ it during the last Super Bowl in NOLA... just the electricity... and look at the field

as long as it looks better than it has I'm ok with whatever color they go with for the endzones. On certain camera angles our turf has looked pretty ragged the last few years. My wife points it out every time too. I'm not telling her about the new turf and I'm going to time her to see how long it takes before she says something. :D

They put in new turf before every season...

The old turf is generally donated to some high school's field.

I believe we've gotten new turf every year since '06. It's not nearly as expensive to replace as an outdoor turf field since we don't have to deal with drainage and base layers.

As far as painting the end zones, they just need to go with colored turf and stitch in the lettering/logos. That actually may be the case in the 9ers/Ravens Super Bowl pic.

wasn't aware they switched it every year....then they need to switch suppliers or something. It looks pretty bad on tv. Splotchy looking.

I would love to see black with a single gold fleur-de-lis.

Alternately black with a staggered gold fleur-de-lis pattern could look pretty sharp as well.

Personally I would like to see the end zones littered with Saints touchdowns all season long!!............:ezbill:

It has to do with the surface, the lights and the angle of the cameras. On tv, the field has a sheen to it that is an eyesore, IMO. It looks great in person and from other angles. See the Superbowl pic someone posted.

I don't recall which field, but I noticed this about another NFL stadium's turf.
